I need honest input on how much this is going to hurt. I am 6-weeks post op after having a bunion removed. The pin has been sticking out of my foot this whole time. This week, the doctor is going to use needle-nosed pliers and pull the darn thing out. I hyperventilate just thinking about it.
He said I shouldn't need any anesthesia, but of course if it hurts, he would give me a local. (He also noted that the shot would probably hurt more.)
Ok, actually, I just want to hear good stories because I'm scared to death!

Relax. It will not hurt. I had three pins in my feet, and all I felt was a slight pressure - no pain. Our imagination is our own worst enemy in these situations. You'll be fine.

Last week I had two pins out of the same big toe. Yes, there was pressure, but it really did not hurt. Believe me, you probably have experienced more pain than this. I felt the Dr. grip my toe and they were out. I chose not to watch, then again I do not watch my stitches being taken out either.
Just think, you will not have to worry about that darn pin anymore. I kept mine, just as a momento of what I have been through.
You will do fine. Don't mess with anesthesia, you do not need it. Your Dr. is right, the shot will hurt worse.
Good Luck!

It does not hurt at all. I just closed my eyes and he told me when he was finished! I had three pins removed at three weeks. My doc said the longer the pins are in, the less discomfort you might feel because the bone pulls away from the bones! Good luck!
