This is my first time, on this particular board. My grandmother, who will be 76 this year, has AD. They say she is about 50% gone. Its really hard to swallow, but we are trying our best. My mother (the middle child) has taken over her doctors visits, etc, from my grandfather..he just is getting too old to do it all (80yrs).

She is currently on Namenda, Aricept, and Paxil....I think thats all. I feel that since she started the Namenda, its gotten worse. She is sleeping alot and having problems with urination. She started wearing Depends b/c she can't seem to control her bladder. :( She only talks to you when you talk to her, otherwise she just sits there and listens. She walks fine and can dress herself pretty well, that I know of. I don't think she can fix her hair any longer, or maybe she just can't do much to it.

My questions are, what in your opinions, are the best meds available for this? My mom is going to take a list of meds and things into the doctor and try to find a good neurologist around here. We just don't know what to do, this is our first experience with AD in the immediate family. Any help would be appreciated.

We are heartbroken and so very saddened by this disease. Its such a horrible thing, watching someone you love go through this...

TIA
Christi
