What is the general concensus of the amount of exercise one can do at this stage. I was told *let pain be your guide*----so I have been walking quite a bit everyday in an aircast. I walk mostly on my heel in the airboot so I don't put all my weight on my bad foot. On my lunch hour I walked about a mile---any thoughts? I also worked out on my Stepper at home---once again using my cast foot only on the heel-----I still have alot of swelling w/or w/out the walking. Thanks for all info. :bouncing:

At 6 weeks I was still trying to keep my foot elevated most of the time since swelling was still a big issue. I also started bicycling rather than walking because I read here in the posts that walking in awkward ways (e.g. on the outside of foot) is not good. Once I felt comfortable walking normally (at about 8 weeks) I started to walk for longer periods (10 minutes). I'm going to ask my doctor this week about swimming and running. I'm almost 11 weeks post op.
