Hello everyone,

I have been having stomach burning and cramping for about 4 weeks or so now. I don't know what the problem is? I also have started having abnormal vaginal bleeding during this time too. I went the the GYN and had a pap smear and some blood work done. The pap came back as normal. :) According to the blood work my thyroid is underactive and my cholesterol is high and my carbon dioxide is low? :nono: I also noticed a stray blonde hair on my chin! It seems as if when I eat my stomach burns and cramps worse. I might go a couple of days with no pain but it starts back again. It hurts any where from the middle of my stomach to the bottom. I am usually constipated and I was diagnosed with an ulcer at 10 years of age. I am 27 now and my ulcer seldomly bothers me now. The pains seem like ulcer type pains but I took some zantac and it didn't help? Could this be Gall Bladder trouble? Any advice is greatly appreciated. :D

April

It is possible that you have Meckel's divertickle (it is a blind end of the small intestine, like appendix and only some people have it. It can produce acid which cause ulcers in the small intestine. This is typical for ulcers in children - like in your case - and can reoccur later if divertickle was not removed. It can bleed - you would find red or black colored stool.
Other possible but very rare cause is Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Pains from gallblader are usually under the middle of lower rib on the right side with strong cramps but I bellieve without burning. I also bellieve that Zontac wouldn't help if there was already an ulceration.

Thanks for your input. I just know when I was 10 and diagnosed with an ulcer through an x-ray my doctor put me on prescription zantac and that was it? I have never heard of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome? What is that exactly?

Zollinger-Ellison syndrom is a type of cancer which excretes large amount of
gastrin which causes excess excretion of gastric acid and thus leads to widespread ulcers all over digestive tract. It's rare, I don't believe you have it, I mentioned it (and also Meckel's divertickle) because of your early onset of the disease which is unusually and it needs explanation with some underlying condition. I'm telling you this because if you will be again diagnosed now to have an ulcer and medications won't help, gastroscopy will probably be necessary for the start.
I've read your post again; you're saying your pain is more toward the bottom of abdomen. I'm not sure if this is typical for gastric ulcer; pancreatic and intestinal problems would cause pain there more likely but all these are just some of my toughts.

Thats for your help modrijan. I will explore these conditions on the internet and compare my symptoms. I wonder if it is just caused be constant constipation being built-up in the bottom of my stomach. I know one time when I went to the doctor a few years ago and was very bad constipated the doctor said I had stools he could feel in the bottom of my stomach that needed to come out? Sorry for so much info.

Thanks,
April

Hello,
please, if you allow just one more thought: when you will be considering your symptoms you have had all this years, try to figure out what made you feel better and what worse: type of food, work, sleeping schedulle, medications, mood, stress, exercise...This will help you to change what necessary and your doctor in further investigation.
