View Full Version : Eye Pain + Blurred Vision with Contacts

Hi
For the past 4 or 5 years I've noticed my right eye doesn't seem 'right'. It feels thick, although I have no discharge and sometimes feels a bit sore. I've also noticed some of the time I have pain on moving my right eye (almost like a sore muscle) and I used to get frequent headaches that originate from behind my right eye (although these are diminishing now).
However these are all things I can live with, but for the past year I've been having huge contact lense problems (I use soft daily disposables). Most of the time the right eye is blurred with my contact lense in and sometimes it hurts (although I also have this pain without the lenses it is worse with them in). It does tend to get better the longer the lenses are in, but for the first couple of hours my vision seems distorted like the eyes aren't working together and I feel off balance (although this could be because the right eye is blurred).
Does anyone have any suggestions on what this could be? I've been to about 4 or 5 opticians and they all say my eye is fine and they can't see any reason why the contacts are blurred and uncomfortable, although I do have mild Blepharitis (on the inner lid) which is worse in the right eye. I've even been to eye casualty (about 3 years ago) and they couldn't find anything wrong either.
Any advice gratefully received.

hi!

My first thought is that you have dry eyes because I had most of the symptoms you describe and now I really can't wear contact lenses. I don't know if you have dry eyes but I definitely would suggest ditching the opticians, and going to an opthalmologist, who is an eye specialist, and whom I tend to trust more than opticians (no offense to any opticians out there).
I also for the time being would cease wearing lenses (I know it stinks) because I found that my condition got worse the longer I attempted to keep putting my lenses in.
I'm pretty young (25) and they really haven't been able to reverse my dry eyes, but yours may still be pretty mild and generally they can do a lot to help you.

good luck!

Thanks for the advice - just found out my GP actually specialises in eye problems (apparently he's just completed a course) so have booked in with him. I'm hoping he'll be enthusiastic since he's only just qualified and try to find the root of my problem. I find most opticians/eye doctors are happy to try a couple of things but if that doesn't work they give up and pack you off home with 'there's nothing we can do'!
