I Posted A Few Months Ago About Pain In My Mid/lower Left Abdominal Area. My Doctor Has Since Ordered A Ultrasound And Found I Have Many Gall Stones. I Am Seeing A Surgeon Soon For That. This Pain, However, Is About 3 Inches To The Left And 3-4 Inches Down From The Belly Button Area On My Left Side. It Happens Sporadically. Comes And Goes As It Pleases. It Is A Sharp, Very Rapid Burning Poke. Sometimes Achy, But Usually There And Gone Very Fast. This Spot Has Been The Same Since Last August 2003! I Have Researched Colon Cancer, Ibs, Spastic Colon, And Whatever Else I Could And Find Nothing That Really Suits Me!. My Bowels Are I Guess Normal. Well.. To Get More Specific What I Think It Normal. Never Truly Solid, Sometimes It Is Very Pressuriezed. Meaning When I Start To Go. It Just Might Blow The Back Of The Toilet Bowl Out! Lol!! (sorry But Best Way To Describe That One! ). Sometimes Not Bad At All. I Am A Gassy Person. Have Been For Years And Years. I Just Don't Know What This Is! I Have Anxiety/ Panic Attacks And I Think My Doc Thinks I Am A Nutcase. But I Know I Have Pain, I Know It's Real And I Know Where It Is And How Long It's Been There. I Know There Is Something There.. Just Don't Know What It Is. Any Ideas? Hmm... Oh Yeah,, Sorry So Long..

Several things that you could try.
Start taking a water soluble fiber like Metamucil. It will make you regular and have more gentle BMs that are well formed and seem sort of lubricated. Just take it like It says on the container with plenty of water. Psyllium is a bulk forming agent and safe to take daily.
I think you are also having cramping or spasms in your colon causing the pain. You could try taking a homeopathic remedy-- Magnesia Phos when needed. If this helps then you probably need to take a Calcium/Magnesium supplement --- Lack of either of these minerals will and can cause muscle cramping and spasms in any muscle in your body!!!
In the Information Archive on the Digestive Disorders board there are several posts that refer to web sites about Controlling Gas -- I think you may find it helpful!! I think eating a good brand of yogurt daily is very good to help re-balance the friendly bacteria in your intestines. I use Stonyfield Farm brand --- it is the best I have Found!!
