Hello everyone. I was diagnosed with TMJ around 2 years ago. The symptoms come and go depending on the weather and how my appetite is for chewy things. :D

Anyway, for the past couple of months, my upper and lower teeth on the left side of my mouth are not touching each other when I close my mouth. The right side upper and lower teeth DO touch each other with my mouth close. I CAN open mouth wide though.

My TMJ doctor says that my jaw is locked.

Not suprisingly, my left ear feels stuffed and I have tinnitus on that side also.

Does anyone else have similar jaw symptoms? What can be done to fix it?Can it be fixed?

I wear a splint on my lower teeth (which I get readjusted once in a while because it always ends up falling out of my mouth in the middle of the night!).

Thanks for all your help!

---I'm a vegetarian with TMJ. Enough said. :D

Welcome to the board,
I have had both of these. When I close my mouth only my front teeth touch and also
I have had when I close my mouth only on side touches. It all depends on what kind of muscle day I am having. I know for sure that when my bite is off bacause I loose the hearing in my right ear and it rings, swooshes, and "vibrates". I have had all kinds of tests done for the ear problem and nothing has shown up and I do know now it is tmj related and I would bet safely that your ear problem is also from your bite being off. Fixed is a broad term with tmj. Hopefully you could get your bite corrected with the splint being adjusted right. I would lay off the chewy things!! :) Before this blinding flare up I am having I was symptom free for 3 years, but if I would chew a piece of gum or eat something like a bagel.........woohoo, I would land myself in bed with a whopper of a headache for 2 days! I ate one m&m the other day out of my son's Easter basket and it set me back for the rest of that day. I think you have to be so disciplined with this thing. Good luck and keep up posted!

Howdy,
I have the same problem, my splints didn't help, but that doesn't mean they won't work for you. Good luck! -Gabi
