Back in October of 1999, I noticed some flesh like bumps around my vaginal area. They appeared right after a trip to the gyn and my pap smear came back ok. I had the bumps for several weeks and then they suddenly disappeared. Now just a week or so ago, the same flesh like bumps appeared. What does this sound like? Could it be genital warts? Is it common for the condition to wait almost 5 years before reappearing?

HPV is known to "hibernate" for YEARS without ever showing a sign or symptom of infection. Have you had a doctor look at them?

No, unfortunately, a blood test won't confirm infection because the disease doesn't live in the blood, like herpes, it lives in the skin / tissue. Have you gone to your gyno? They should be able to help you there. If you have actual warts, they should be able to look at them and make a proper diagnosis from there. Also, you should know that if they are warts, condoms do not protect you because the disease is transmitted though skin-to-skin contact.
