Has anyone had serious equilibrium problems caused by TMJ? I have the spacey feeling and sometimes get dizzy but today i woke up and got out of bed and the whole room was spinning and i had to lay down again fast. After that even when i layed down i did not feel totally right and all day i have been kind of dizzy

Thanks, Linda

OH YES! Mine started after my TMJ joints started pressing into my middle ear areas. I woould wake up some days and have to lay on the floor on the way to the kitchen. Now I have epsiodes, unpredictable I must say its very annoying. Ive been driving before and had to pull over. Ive gotten so nauseasited Ive thrown up. Its bad news.

Thanks for the information i think......I have had TMJ for a long time I believe but finally just figured it out. I wear a hard splint 24/7 and it has been about 4 months now so i guess maybe the jaw is in a bad place now and hoping it keeps moving to where it should before i have the dizzy thing again that is bad. A long time ago i had a dizzy spell while driving so i can relate that is very scary.

fly,
I too can relate. I was getting this dizziness that would come over me so hard that even if I was sitting on the couch I would have to hold onto something. Sometimes it would last off and on for days, sometimes it would last for only a second or two. I hate all of the symptoms of tmj, but that dizzy feeling when it won't go away is so bad. I have not had it since I got the splint I am currently wearing. I am goint to get my new hard splint next week and I am praying that the dizziness will not come back
Good luck and keep us posted,
Karen

Hello,

If the dizziness continues I would check out whether you have an inner ear problem. The best type of specialist to see for this is a neurotologist (different from a neurologist.)

best,

When my dizziness hits it's almost always a very hard hit. By that I mean I get so dizzy that it feels like my head is spinning and I have to catch myself. The dizziness is indeed scary.

Is dizziness like that related to TMJ? Now that I think about it, I may have been having symptoms for longer than I thought...

All through high school, I had a problem with dizziness... every time I stood up, I had to close my eyes and hold onto something or else I'd feel like I was going to pass out. Sometimes I'd see black dots.

I used to have an ear infection when I was younger, but as far as I know, I don't have any inner ear problems... is something like this common with TMJ?
