i have had lower back problems since my oldest daughter was born and she is now 11 yrs old the pain has been so bad at times i can't even get out of bed. sometime all i have to do is be walking somewhere or eveb walking in the house and move the wrong way and it stops me dead in my tracks because it hurts so bad. i wake up every morning with the same pain. i have seen my doctor several times and she can't seem to find anything wrong and just gives me pain medication and muscle relaxers. what can i do? i trust her she has been my doctor for over 10 yrs.

i agree with dodgeman. you need to make it clear to your doc that something IS wrong with your back. ask her to schedule an MRI and refer you to a back specialist. you need to find out whats wrong with you before it gets progressively worse than it already is. The sooner you know whats wrong , the sooner you can get treatment for it. Make a pain of the butt out of yourself if you have to. sometimes its the only way to get results!!! good luck to you and i hope you find the help you need. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif

Get your doc to refer you to an expert! Honestly...she may be a wonderful family or general practitioner (I have a TERRIFIC FP), but they typically are just that - generalist - not experts. Please, please see an orthopedist, neurologist, or a doctor in a pain clinic. At the very least, I completely agree with Michelle and Dodgeman - you need some radiology exams. Something is obviously going on if your pain has been this bad and for this long.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Hi Denise and welcome! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
I absolutely agree, you need to see a back specialist. I had low back pain for 4 years, finally went to a highly recommended doc, who ordered an MRI and had me diagnosed immediately.
I just had an IDET on Monday and am still recovering, but am hoping to be finally free of this back pain for the first time in years.....
So there is hope. But first, you need to go to a specialist. Get a recommendation for the BEST one in your area, and wait as long as is necessary to get in to see them.
Good luck!

It is nice that you have a primary care physician that you trust but you should absolutely be referred to a specialist, be it an orhopaedic doc or neurosurgeon or whatever. PCP's can only do so much in this area. You will need an MRI ordered; perhaps a flexion X ray; an evaluation of your symptoms, etc. This is the only way to get started in coming up with what is causing your back pain. Please ask your doctor to refer you for a consult as soon as possible! Why suffer any longer than you already have? Let us know how you do! ~ Jill P http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
