Hi, I have been so busy. I have come by a few times on the board to read messages but didn't post. I wanted to offer some postive note to others that are having a hard time with recovering from Bunion surgery. I thought a few months ago I might have made a big mistake doing this but Now I am so glad I did. I had surgery Dec 31. My foot never did swell alot. I kept it up.
I did notice when I started walking in a regular shoe my big toe did a little bit.
It hurt alot to walk sometimes if my toe got bent back to far. Still needs more flex to my toe. I can now wear almost all my shoes. My toe isn't swollen.
I am very thankful that God helped me and that this board was there to discuse things. I hope that everyone has good recovery. I know some don't.
I had a pin in too and when that was taken out seemed to help alot.
There was a time my pain about did me in but hang in there it does get better.
My toe is straight and just sometimes I get a achy feeling in the top of my foot and I notice when I get up in the middle of the night or in the morning I have to get my foot a little time to get flexiable but nothing major.
Hope this encourages someone. Hugs, Polly

snodove,

It's nice to hear from you. Those of us who are mobile seem to post less. Isn't it a gift form heaven to walk on 2 feet? I was just released from my orthopedic surgeon this morning. I started this whole process for the second time last August and a bilateral bunionectomy in 2001. I still have some stitches infrom a pin removal but I can go to my primary care doctor to get those removed. It's nice to see a familiar name. Happy healing.

Hi Patty, Yes, we seem to post less. I try to read posts anyway. I am glad you are doing so well too. Yes, it is great walking on two feet. I was starting to wonder if I ever would. I had been walking on the side of my foot kind of not really realizing it when I first started wearing shoes. Guess in my mind I was trying to be careful.
Now, I am walking better though. Will be glad when you are all healed up from your stiches. Happy Healing, Polly

Hi Polly, I was wondering if you'd gone on to happy healed-up land. Let us know how you're progressing each month at least, so I'll have someone to compare myself to. Ha, ha. You were 1 week behind my surgery. Yes, I complain quite a bit about what I see as slow recovery, but actually I've improved quite a bit. I walked about 1 mile to the Post Office at lunch today (I must admit I walked on grass whenever I could to avoid that concrete). You're lucky your foot isn't swollen. Good luck on a continued recovery!

Hi Polly,
Great to hear from you!! I, too, have been around here less often as my foot is finally feeling much better these days, too! We do need to let those behind us in recovery know that there is hope after bunion surgery, so I it's important to post some positives from those of us almost 4 months post op.

As for me, I just returned from a cruise & luckily, my foot was not much of an problem. I was kind of resigned that it may slow me down, but aside from a little pain from too much walking, I actually kept improving during the trip. I wore (slight) heels for both formal nights without any serious repercussions and actually wore other sandals, etc during the trip comfortably. Prior to thiis trip, I had only worn my safe, comfortable (Dr. approved) shoes for about eight weeks straight. It was so fun to wear other shoes that I continued to once I got home last week. Of course, they're all pretty sensible, but I really appreciate options!! I guess another true sign that I'm almost all better is that I forgot about my Dr appt this week & missed it! I rescheduled for next Thursday & am hoping to be released.

Speedy recovery to all of you who recently had surgery!

Yep, I've learned that if someone stops posting, it means they are doing well. We usually post here if we have problems or also when we pass milestones in recovery ie: splint removal, suture removal, able to wear a shoe.
Then we get back to normal, or something fairly close to it, and we disappear. I know I did it with my first surgery back in September. I came back just before surgery on the other foot last month.
gimpy1, you are absolutely right. I never really gave it much thought, but it IS so important for us veterans to come back every so often with a follow up report so those who are just starting down this path will know that there IS a light at the end of the tunnel.
Great idea. :)

Hi Carol, I am thankful my foot hasn't swollen to much. Just my big toe a little. I forgot to mention if I stand alot it bothers me. Like I said when I wake up in the morning. It isn't isn't my toe but the top of my foot and for some reason it has bothered me alot since surgery. Maybe I am still walking funny a little. I did a big walk one day. My husband wanted to go up to the cabin so I thought well it might do me some good. I even got my boots on. lol Well, at the end of the day...... oh my gosh.. I hurt. I think it was walking up hill that did it but I think it helped my toe flex a little. Thank you. Hope you get better really soon. I noticed I didn't really recover fast then all of a sudden it seemed to take off. Hope it does the same for you. Hugs, Polly

Gimpy1. That sounds like a lot of fun you had. Good you got in some other shoes too.
It was great when I could. I know it bothered me some at first but it got better.
I was so glad when my doctor released me. I wanted to run.. lol almost. He was such a good doctor and I was so thankful. I think it is good to post to others too. This is a great group of people. Open and honest. I sure appreciate you all.
Have a great day, Polly

Hi Janet, so true. I agree it is good to post back. I know when I was trying to find some information it was the best place here to find some and talk with others that had been there and done that. Hope you are doing well. Hugs, Polly
