My TMJ Doc just recommended I buy the Alpha Stim SCS. It is a little device that has electrodes that attach to your ear lobes and it sends microcurrents through your head. It's supposed to relieve pain, anxiety, stress and depression. If you search the web for alpha stim you will find the web site.

I tried it today at the Doc's office and it helped relieve my headache but not my jaw pain. Has anyone used this device and found it helpful in the long term? Thanks and have a great day, C

Hi,

I get microcurrent when I go for my appointments, and it helps a lot in the short term. I don't think it's Alpha Stim--it's a more expensive device. My dentist only used tens in the initial appointment to find a good jaw position. I would like to know more about other people's experiences and knowledge of both microcurrent and tens. Has anyone's dentist used microcurrent to relax the jaw and check for position without the tens? I am wondering if I should tens again to re-evaluate a correct jaw position and maybe even go for another splint, since much has changed since that initial appointment six months ago. I'm also wondering if new models or impressions should be taken to keep up with the changes. Does anybody else get re-evaluated periodically, and is it helpful?

Later...

Anybody have more info/experience in their treatment using microcurrent in addition or in place of tens to relax the jaw? Do you get new models taken periodically or when your bite/jaws change?
