Last week I started having a very sharp persitent pain in the middle of my back (bra strap area). It is mostly in the middle of the back but just left of spine area, it seems like a boulder is there. I have no problem breathing and it doesnt effect the pain either way. It will be continual if I am busy and standing on my feet, so much that I have to stop and lay down for 5-10 minutes, to get it to subside. It is better when I sit in a chair with me pressing hard against the chair for support. Yet, the pain doesnt go away, even then.
Have any idea what it could be? Thanks for any help or suggestions you could give me.

Hi Ocean and welcome to the board! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
You will find a lot of support and good info here. My problem is in my low back, but when it started it was similar to yours. I waited for years before I went to a back specialist and wish I'd gone earlier. You could have a disk problem, but it could also be a lot of other things.
I would highly recommend seeing a back specialist. You will need xrays and an MRI of your back to aid in the diagnosis.
good luck!

Hi Ocean and welcome! It sounds like muscle spasms to me. I get the same pain in the same area! I would go see my dr though especially if you had something happen recently that would even pull the muscles. Take care and keep us posted!

Hi Ocean,
As a relative newcomer to this board (read that today), I don't really feel qualified to answer you. But I will tell you something that I struggle with, and maybe it will help you find an answer.
I have a problem with my rib popping out of place. I was a big time bowler before I had all the problems with my neck and back. I was seeing a wonderful chiropractor who did a great job of putting me back together. I do know that since I have quit bowling, the problem does not seem to bother me as much.
It would feel like somebody was sticking a knife in my back right below my shoulder blade. The pain would radiate from my back bone to the outside of my body. My Dad suffers from the same problem (he is still bowling), and has learned how to put it back in by himself. He does it with a rolled up towel put at the right location. I could never get that to work for me, but it works for him.
I know that I will probably get ragged on for mentioning chiropractors on this board. I have had two very good ones that did very good by me, and one very bad one who ended up causing me to have surgery (neck fusion C-4 to C-5). So if you go to one, be very choosy and careful. A good chiropractor should take x-rays, or at least look at your x-rays, before ever touching you. How else would they know what they are dealing with?
Anyway, best of luck with finding a solution for your pain problem.
