I found out NINE months ago that I have genital warts. Since then I’ve had six months of TCA treatments, three months of liquid nitrogen treatments, and about five months of using Aldara off and on with these other treatments. I’m on my third doctor now (dermatologist) who suggested Podophyllin next. I said no because I heard that it can be as painful and irritating as TCA, but he assured me that it doesn’t hurt and why don’t I give it a try while also using Aldara. Well, wouldn’t ya know it, I’m sitting here sore as hell! He also told me to wash it off after EIGHT hours and everything I’m reading about it tonight says one to four hours. I am beyond frustrated. I’m in tears constantly and feel like I can’t enjoy life until these are gone. And it’s not as if I just have one or two stubborn ones, I get new/old recurrences all the time. They go away – two days later their back. I feel like I can’t take this anymore. I plan on getting a referral to do laser surgery, but I feel like what’s the point, that it won’t work either. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or similar experience with treatment? I am freaking out and I just can’t take anymore.

Fetch,
If you don't mind me asking...did you find out you had genital warts through an STD clinic test or it just showed up physically? I ask because I am not sure if this STD is visible to the naked eye, and I am planning to go to a clinic soon for a full STD checkup.

There is no way to test for HPV unless symptoms are present, and many, many people carry the virus without symptoms, or can carry it for months, even years, before symptoms develop.

Aldara has been found to trigger outbreaks of herpes in some patients who have dormant herpes. 3M knows this happens but will not put it on the label. If you really want to know what Aldara is all about I suggest you visit http://www.aldara1.com where there is a collection of data and information 3M "forgot" to warn everyone about on the label. Most all the data is 3M's own materials. Go all through the site as just a quick visit will not do you justice in educating yourself about Aldara. It's really bad stuff. Side effects include drug induced autoimmune disorders as well...
