Hi there. I know a lot of ppl that i have read r having this type of problem but ihave a few symptoms that no one else seems to. They r of bugles in both of my legs (docs seem to think they r the muscles contracting and not being able to release) I feel hot and cold feelings on legs but inside they feel the opposite My feet r constantly freezing they feeling like what i would imagine freezing to be like it is more of a burning cold feeling. i have constant throbbing in both of my feet. Slight numbness in both legs mainly from knees down. When i had the accident i was 6 months pregnant with my son. I would like to know if anyone else was pregnant when theres occured particullay in australia. The docs r refusing to do anything to me or for me as mine says that i am not giong to walk for long. My muscles will eventually burn out and stop performing. I am in the middle of a legal case as it was not my fault it happened(negligence) i also need to know if anyone has done this before or any helpo trying to find info on this
I thank anyone who can help me and for the time to reply.

Wow, I really feel for you.
What happened during your pregnancy after the accident?
How is it that the doctors can refuse to treat you?
There must be something you can do..physical or hydrotherapy, meds or herbal remedies, etc?
I was in an accident several months ago (at the negligence of another)& have cervical & lumbar disc injuries with nerve impingement.
My L5-S1 herniation has been the most problematic for me as well. I have numbess, tingling, & severe pain, which at times causes weakness. I have experienced the muscles tightening at my calf, but that hasn't lasted more than a few hours when it occurs. Mostly I have difficulty with prolonged sitting, standing, walking, driving is extremely limited, and most other things I enjoy as well. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/mad.gif
I am only 25 so this really sucks!!
Conservative treatments only helped to an extent, so I have begun ESI treaments.
I had the lumbar 1 month ago & the cervical a few days ago. They seem to be helping me, at least temporarily.
I think the lumbar ESI has worn off somewhat & may need a 2nd to do the trick.
I'm not sure exactly the details of your situation, but I think you'll find this board to be of a great support at the very least. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

To Juniper,
Thank you for ur reply. The docs refuse to give me or do anything for me as they say there is nothing that can be done until i cant walk anymore. Then they will think about operating. After the op they give me 5% chance of being able to walk again. I dont know if the odds r correct or not but on those chances i dont think i want to do it anyway. All they will do i fusion and it leaves me at more risk as the nerves and sciatica have already been damamged. I grabbed a child who feel to the ground and pulled and twisted me with him it happened so quickly i didnt have time ro let go of him. It is really hard to accept it as it wasnt my fault and i am trying to go through litigation but i need other ppl who have gone through the same thing and had a successful win to be able to successful myself. I I hope that the op for u was good and does take the pain away for along time, The docs r thinking about puting me on morpheine cause of the pain. But i have tried to hold off, What do u think about that option on med? we dont have a lot of meds avaible in australia that the other countries do have. I would like to know how other ppl deal with this i am having a real hard time as i cant do anything with my kids and i am constantly depressed cause i cant do things i used to. I have been trying for ages to find some help and support and finally my hubby found this site and it seems to be very informative for me. I am hoping that things go well for u and keep smiling whenever possible http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Oh and i am only 29 the accident i had was 2 years ago. It isnt nice when u get so affected by someone else neglegence. I had a few probs with the pregnancy eg: false labours, delivery wasnt that bad, i think i got used to alot of pain so i had a good labour. after it happened i couldnt walk for 3 months. I have been told that if i was to have another i could end up in a wheelchair i am not sure if that is what other docs will say. i am thankful to have 2 kids already. bye again and keep smiling http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Trace73,
I'm so sorry to hear about your situation! I'm afraid I don't know anything about it, but I wanted to offer you my support.
It just doesn't seem right to me that they are waiting until you can't walk to do anything. It seems they should be doing aggressive treatment NOW, to try to prevent that situation. Have you gotten MRIs and EMGs?
I was in a wheelchair for a while (unrelated problem) and thought that I might never be able to walk again. It's terrible! Have you tried any alternative treatments (not in place of but in addition to the standard medical treatments) such as acupuncture, acupressure, yoga, massage, etc?
Best of luck,

ty telzey for ur support, I am on panadeine forte att he moment. Thats all they will give me and sometimes on brufen tabs to stop the swelling if it is really bad.that one is like an inflammatory doesnt do much anyways except sometimes when it is really bad around the disc then it seems to take apart of it down. the docs here cant send me for a mri unless a specialist will, but they arent even giong to send me to see a neurosurgoen to see if he would the docs reconto much red tape to go threw to do so. So i am stuck with the enivatable. I have done some pysio but it only agrivated it and they ended up saying there is nothing that can be done they reocn in mild cases pyshio does work but not in mine. If something was done about it after i gave birth to my son then i couldve had a chance but the docs over here r so worried about red tape and the government it makes it so hard and cause we r unemployed we dont have private health insurance no ojne will touch me. My hubbyu does massage me every couple nights to help with the cramping and soreness.
My hubby had to give up work to be home with me and look after my daughter as my legs would give way on me at any time. i feel down the stairs numerous times. But i am still hoping it will get better, I am glad that i can still have a bit of hope there after all this time. When i first done it i was in a wheelchair and it wasnt to bad beats trying to walk and getting frustrated cause ppl just bowl me over. I get so angry sometimes as it hurts like hell for me to do anything but i know the longer i use my legs the more time i will have to use them. If i stopped using them i would loose them quicker so i am trying to go for a walk every couple of days. Thanks again for the support and hope to hear from u again soon.

Hey Trace!
This sounds like a complicated one. I realize you are from Australia so things may work differently but if you are in the middle of a lawsuit couldn't you seek out the treament of a specialist. Perhaps through a lean on your case? It sounds extremely cruel to wait until you can't walk & whoever told you that should have action taken against them as well. (Maybe look into that?)
They are essentialy taking away your rights to seek out treatment & confining you to this fate. There must be other options!
Get other docs & lawyers opinions if you are reaching roadblocks. Don't give up hope, there must be other alternatives than waiting for the worst to happen.
If you had better insurance what treatments would be available?
I probably wouldn't start something like morphine until I was desperate..but that's just me. I'm sure there are others here who know more about this.
I am on vioxx (antiinflammatory), Zanaflex (muscle relaxer), & neurontin (peripheral neuropathy).
There are also exercises you could probably do on your own to strengthen your back. But be careful not to injure yourself worse (no weights). I'm not sure if I mentioned this already to you, but swimming is the best therapy for all back disorders.
Please let me know how you're doing. Good luck. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

thanx for replying Juniper,
I am giong to seek another opion about this. Ive seen an orthopedic sugeon but they wouldnt do anything as it was in litigation. I am reaching blocks everyway i turn with this. My doc wont help and i have been to several docs before the one i am seeing know. I have got another option is to go to the hospital but all they want to do is give me morphiene but i would rather wait a bit more. I enjoyed swimming as i releaves the pressure of my back but i find it difficulat to get out of the pool and it weights me back down. Although the time spent in the water is good. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif i have tried pyshio but that only aggrevated the pain so it stopped soon after it began. The prob is when i move it hurts so i am very limited to movement. Cant walk long distance or short ones actually. But i try and that is what gets me there i suppose. I take brufen (inflammatory) when the pain gets really bad and kinda centralised on the back, the pain seems to go after awhile but doesnt make that much diff. But iam giong to get another doc to look at it. Hopefully they will sned me to a neurosurgoen who will do a mri soon and hopefully shed some light on all this. Hope all is well for u and talk to u soon.

Hi Trace,
I thought of something else you can try... I found the McKenzie exercises very helpful in reducing my extremity symptoms and centralizing my back pain. I got a book called "7 Steps to a Pain Free Life" by Robin McKenzie and followed the exercises given in the book. Apparently they don't work for everyone, but the book is inexpensive and it doesn't hurt to try these techniques. Maybe they might help you??
Anyway, good luck! I wish you all the best.

Hey guys, I had a ruptured l5s1 and boy did it give me grief my legs felt they were on fire and no matter what I could not get relief until I had an op to right the situation but I mucked it up with a motor bike accident a year later-another ruptured disc, I've had a total of 5 ops so now it's just pain management which is a bit hit and miss, see how my morphine pump go!
May you all be pain free

Rob

Hey rob how does the morphiene work the docs want to put me on it but i am abit reluntent to at this moment in time would it be better for me than panadiene forte allthe time as i take a max oa 8 per day then i take 2-3 brufen also if i could stop and just take the one then i would be happier. I have to go into hosapital for a couple of days to see weither it doesnt cause a reaction with me. Did they do that to u and i can have the tabs with carefull monitoring is that much diff to the pump? If anyone has any answers then i would apprectiate it . thank and keep smiling :d

Hi Trace:
Try the Pain Management board on this site to ask yor morphine questions. There are more people there who can help with that one. (Particularly David seems to know a lot)
Hope it helps. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
