Hey, I have been dieting for exactly 1 month today, and I am just wondering, is it normal to be constipated because of the change in my diet?? And my diet is healthy for once! It seems like since I was very young, I have had bowel problems, (I wasnt very regular), my mom told me it was genetic cause my dad and grandma are that way. But since I have gotten on my new diet, (I did it all on my own, just reducing calories, etc.) and about 3 times, I have been pretty constipated. Any info on this would be helpful. Thanks!!

Hi---I was wondering the same thing in regards to my own troubles. I am very loosly doing the low-carb diet after 3PM but am wondering if that is what is causing the havoc. The low-carb diets shun fruits and fiberfull foods :nono: which is very dangerous for you digestive health and can lead to heart problems. So I suggest just getting all the fiber you can just before bed, oatmeal is good as well as good old fashioned prunes and raisins. I am going to do this and am hoping these long visits with the toilet days will be over soon.

Regardless of what diet you go on--it is a must to make sure that you get enough fiber for you to have regular BMs. There is no fiber in all meats, seafood and dairy products so you just have to eat veggies and fruit!!!

No matter how much fiber I ate, it did not help at all. Natural or fiber supplements, still nothing. The only help I found was a colonic too clean out the mess.

Some people have mobility problems with their intestines and it causes all sorts of odd symptoms and the intestines don't function right??
But, for most people that have normal Bowels then they work with FIBER--- It is just the way our gasto intestinal system is made to function!!!

It is not normal to have to take a colonic to empty your colon! I don't even know where you would get one where I live???

I realize it is not normal, but nothing else worked, the doctors just said take laxitives. I did not want to become a laxative junkie, but 7 or 8 days between bowell movements is not a lot of fun. I tried fiber, 20 glasses of water a day, etc, no luck. So, iin desperation I am having a series of colonics. Hopefully after I am cleaned out, the system can restart itself naturally. But this once a week thing has got to go. If you could only imagine.

Natural doctors will tell you one bowell movement a day is required. But medical doctors will say 3 a week is fine. I believe it varies from person to person. I had a colonic tuesday evening and havent went since, I understand a good colonic is equal to 20 or more bowell movements. Another colonic this sunday. Hopefully oonce cleared out I will operate normally again. It is so frustrating. How do you accomplish your movements?

Brown rice, like a a cup per meal, helps me. Along with that, I have a small portion of lean meat and some veggies (dark green leafy kinds). Lots of water (~2L/day). If too much fiber is taken, it can clog up the system. It really depends on your water consumption. Exercise may help.
