View Full Version : Degenerative Myopia

Hi there I'm new here on the board after scouring the net for some sort of forum board for people with vision problems.

There isn't a whole lot of resources out on the WWW for people like me who suffer from degenerative myopia... my eyes have been bad ever since I was about 7 years old and the strength of my glasses has steadily increased since then. My prescription level did not taper off once I hit my early 20's, it continued to get worse and 5 years ago I had my licence yanked when my periphal vision was bad, however I did get my licence back.

I was diagnosed with this at the Low Vision centre in Waterloo Ontario Canada... ( I'm not sure how many Canadians are on this board)....

My current prescription is OD -1325-350x016 and OS -1075-300x165, my optometrist even told me of all the people on his list I have the worst level of nearsightedness lol.

My vision with glasses is about 20/40.... as you probably are aware, someone like me is at risk for retinal detachment and I try not to worry about...

Sorry for the long post... lol

Hiya:

I don't have your problem, but I've been to Waterloo many times. I saw Drs. Simpson (love him), and Dr. Spafford (she pulled my licence :), but she's good too). Also been to Toronto Western, General and Sick Kids.

Would much rather go to Waterloo, and am lucky enough to live an hour away. (My son went to engineering school at Waterloo).

Good luck to you, and I hope your myopia does decrease somewhat as you get older.

Not gonna happen my amigo... my nearsightedness will continue to worsen... the only difference is that it happens in half steps of power now instead of 2 or 3 steps of power.... I am on disability for that and other things but I still work part time.

I was absolutely flabbergasted at all the equipment they have at the Low Vision Centre, anything your own eye doctor has pales in comparison.

Glad to see another Canuck on board here. :)
