Hey everybody,

For as long as I can remember, eating uncooked fruits or vegetables has caused a sharp, prolonged pain in my stomach. The pain is internal, and located at about the base of my sternum, so I don't know if I would describe it as stomach or esophagus. It usually comes with a little gas in the first 15 minutes or so, and feels like there is slight swelling (but of course I don't know for sure). The pain lasts at least 30 minutes, and increases based on the amount I eat. During that time it fades to a dull ache, then spikes again to a piercing pain. The longer the fruits/vegetables are cooked, the less pain they tend to cause. Meaning, fully cooked ones tend to cause no irritation, except for broccoli, cauliflower, and a few others which seem to cause it regardless.

Anyway, does anyone know what causes these symptoms? I assume it's an inability to break down certain enzymes that are more prominent in raw fruits/vegetables than cooked ones. But I can never find any information on this, so I've never known what was happening or if anything can be done.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

It sounds like the beginning of a hiatal hernia that causes some pain in that area.
Lack of magnesium as well a calcium in your diet can cause cramping and spasms of muscles in that area as well as all muscles in the body.

You could try taking a cal/mag supplement several times daily to increase absorption-- You need it anyway to not get Osteoporis. Vitamin D is also needed for calcium absorption!!!

I had mostly dismissed that as an option since I never have any matching symptoms or acid reflux outside of the situation with fruit/vegetables. Very well could be though, thanks.
