View Full Version : Burbles Update/Celiac?

Well, this thing is getting worse and I have vacation scheduled next week. Btw, Maggie how are you feeling these days?????
Anyway, it dawned on me that my doctor ordered a different Celiac blood test this year, from the ones he ordered last year. So even though this was negative, I had no way to see if things had gotten worse on the other tests (one of which was postive last year.) Duh, finally decided to call the guy and ask for the same blood tests. Waiting for an answer now.
At least that way I can move on, if things are still negative. For now I guess they'll hear the Burbles all the way over to California........

Hey, Tasha: I thougt I was doing way better, then WHAM! on Fri. night I tried to swallow a too-large Calcium pill & I started having really intense twitches/vibrations/flutters/burbles just south of my breastbone & they lasted about 3 hours! I was good again the next day (just 4 burbles all day!), but am discouraged--faxed my gastro a question re whether to go up on my Nexium dosage. SIGH!
All the best re your trip & the test result info!
HUgs,
Maggie

hi tasha..
a blood test is not accurate enough for celiac..

Mario: Actually, under the circumstances--if you are just about totally asymptomatic like I am, a biopsy isnt necessarily going to show any damage to the intestines. However, since I have thyroid disease and diabetes, and a Mom with Celiac any antibody testing that comes up positive is enough to go on. My doctor already wrote me down as Celiac last year, in order to get me a bone density test. But since three of four antibody tests were negative, I feel like I need a few more to be positive before I go wheat free. Celiac is so hard to diagnose but the new thinking is that antibody tests can be used to screen family members etc for the disease.
(those tests include Gliadin IgA, IgG, Ttg and the Endomysial testing.)
