I'm looking for some advice on how to get rid of this constant worn out/lethargic feeling. I was soooo sick all last year and really thought something was bad wrong with me. After many, many doctor trips and blood tests, the final diagnosis, was I was healthy and just couldn't get over a sinus infection.
Finally, a year later after being completely miserable, I took an allergy test and was allergic to everything under the sun. I didn't have the usual symptoms though, I didn't sneeze (although I wanted too), my eyes didn't itch or get wattery (although they were swollen every morning I woke up). The worst part were the sinus headaches and a feeling of complete fatigue.
Does anyone feel this way and have any suggestions. I've been on various allergy meds. I have been taking shots now for 2 months and they have helped a ton. I know when my allergies are acting up though b/c i get so tired all the time. Just wondering if I was alone and if anyone gets worn out from allergies.

Hi, I am sorry to hear you have been so miserable. I too suffer with severe allergies and sensitivities. I have also suffered with severe fatigue for yrs. 15 yrs ago I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. I was told that a person with severe allergies has a low immune system. And cfs has been recognized as an autoimmune disorder. I think there is a link between allergy sufferes and chronic fatigue syndrome. I was recomended to see an immune specialist. Question your dr. about cfs, since you have already has many blood tests to rule out any major disorder. good luck with everything.

I have never had allergies or this "fatigue" until last year. I don't understand how it just happened. I've been healthy all my life. Anyway, is there anything that can be done about chronic fatigue syndrom?

I have been fatigued all my life I think!!!!jsut kidding. But I am sooo tired all time and don't know why. I have been this way for at least 10 years. Family, ex-husband, and husband now kinda make fun of me and call me "Grandma" cause I HAVE to take a nap almost daily, even if just for an hour. Kinda hurts my feelings cause what harm does it do to anyone if I take a short nap. I don't sleep the day away by any means but if it makes me feek better what's the diff??????

YES YES YES!!!! I was just coming here to ask the exact same thing. My allergies just kicked in yesterday and already I am completely exhausted!! I was wondering if this is a normal reaction for everyone or if it's just me. I'm often tired but with allergies it's a different kind of tired. Think I'll go take a nap now.

I definitely think my allergies make me fatigued. I actually was at the doctor recently to get my thyroid checked out to find out if that was causing my tiredness. It wasn't and I didn't think about it being the allergies til recently when they started kicking in. I don't sneeze much either, even when I feel like I need to, although my eyes do itch and get red, and I get congestion, and a lot of sinus pain and pressure. I am trying some herbal supplements to help with the fatigue and I take allergy meds when needed and tylenol for the sinus pain. I know when the pain and pressure are gone, I usually feel a lot more energized. I did develop the allergies in the past 4 years, so I know you can develop them as an adult. My doctor also recommended a rheumatologist for investing the chronic fatigue symptoms.

Yup, it's normal :( I was like you and it took months for my dr to finally figure out it was allergies. I was tested for so many things it's unreal. I would be *so* tired after work that some nights before bed I didn't even have the energy to brush my teeth.
I'm getting shots now and on some meds so it's getting better, but some days I just feel horrible and ache everywhere. I don't think people realize that there are more to allergies than just sneezing. It's like the flu with the body aches and the constant feeling of being tired :(

I too, have been feeling sooo bad that it has been scaring me. Exhausted beyond belief. Everything is an effort. Lightheaded, scratchy throat and ears, mild sinus pain. Not your "typical" allergy symptoms, huh? Feels like the super flu. Do other people actually feel this way from their allergies? I NEED to know that I'm not alone.

Does anybody get waves of intense flulike symptoms that seem to come and go in intensity? My symptoms seem to ease up a little bit toward evening? Is this common with allergies? It would help me tremendously to know that others have these feelings, because I get really bad anxiety, thinking something is terribly wrong. And I have been thoroughly checked by my internist to rule out other "mimicking" illnesses. So lightheaded, headachy, scratchy throat and ears, that I just have to close my eyes. Can anyone relate?

I Have Only Recently Gotten Allergies In The Past 3 Years Or So.. And Until Then I Never Had An Issue. This Year I Have Experienced A Sore Throat, But Only On My Right Side. Sore To Swallow, And Touch. Anyone Else Experiencing This?

Hi Everyone, I also get extremely tired at times usually it would be very bad after allergy shots. I would have to go bed at about 7 in the evening!!!! and sleep through the night. Being that sleep isnt really my 'thing' it was very odd. I think that this fatigue comes from allergy reactions (for me anyway). Speak to your doctor or allergist and find out if you can try something to straighten it out.

After reading this link and doing some other reading about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it is very unclear to me what the link is betweem the two. According to most of what I've read you can rule out CFS if there is a definate "cause" for your fatigue. But, it is unclear whether allergies can be one of those causes. I suspect that the answer is yes. Unfortunately, the symptoms of CFS and allergies are remarkably similar -- however, I suspect that those with CFS are MAJORLY fatigued. I have allergies and they make me tired, but they don't keep me from getting out of the bed in the morning or living a productive life. Thoughts on when you have CFS vs. allergies?

How is everyone feeling? My allergies are kind of wierd. I don't sneeze a whole lot, my eyes from time to time will itch (not often), my face or my eyes will feel warm/tired and my sinuses seem to bother me. Isn't fun! Can anyone else relate to my symptoms? I do feel tired at times especially when the weather keeps changing!!!! Now THAT, is pretty hard on me!!! (hate the midwest)!

In regards to alternate remedies for fatigue - either allergy associated or other - I have heard people have had great success with Antioxidants, Omega 3/6/9 Complex, b12/Folic Acid and B6 supplements. There are lots of supplements and such out there, and some are just crocks that make lots of promises and take your money with no great end results.
My guess is, some of these supplements with a healthy diet should be a great start to feeling better. Along with ensuring there are no other causes for the fatigue ie: infectious diseases - eptein barr, cytomegaly, etc - thyroid problems, high/low blood sugar, anemia, allergies - which we are all treating somehow anywayz lol - etc.
I suffer severe fatigue as well... which i believe is in part due to allergies... but not completely. And have been able to lessen the fatigue somewhat with diet changes and some supplements... but it is still there. Don't you wish there was one miracle cure for everything? Here, take this pill... and don't worry about anything lol.

Again, I have the same symptoms. The warm face (feverishness) really bothers me. I rarely sneeze and have lots of post nasal drip. Frankly, I think it is all allergy related... despite what my allergist says. I feel like I have a constant low grade infection caused by excessive allergic mucosa. I've been irrigating my sinuses twice daily and found that the more gunk I can get out, the better I feel.

I have noticed that during this time of year I feel down and exhausted. I don't have the normal congestion, sneezing, etc., but I do know that I am allergic to cedar and mold (both high in my area). Some days I have a hard time getting out of bed and I end up dragging myself around, brain fog, etc. I'll take a 2-3 hour nap and feel much better...
I don't have these problems in the summer. So I don't think this is chronic fatigue syndrome. It's definitely chronic fatigue, but not the syndrome.... I don't have many of the other symptoms and have seen an alternative doctor who specializes in that and he doesn't think that's my problem.
Would immunotherapy shots help with this?

Carrielynn,
I'm allergic to the same things (mold & cedar) and sounds like we're feeling similarly. Do you happen to live in the South East?
If you don't mind sharing, how did your alternative med. doc determine that it wasn't CFS?

Well, he deals with a lot of CFS and fibromyalgia patients. I was experiencing some really bad muscle aches (but not the fatigue that I'm feeling now) and so I went to him, worried that I had fibromyalgia. He checked me out and said he didn't think that was what it was. Apparently people with CFS and fibromyalgia have similar symptoms and experience a whole range of them. I don't have problems sleeping, which is a big part of that. And I didn't have the traditional tender points or the IBS problems or the brain fog (at that time). No sore throats or swollen lymph nodes. No headaches.
The muscle aches went away and now I'm dealing with the fatigue. But I always deal with this fatigue during this time of year. It's very familiar and I can predict when it's going to happen on my calendar, as well as the pattern. I'll have good days where I feel fine and bad days where I just slog through the day. This will last for a couple of months. Then I'll feel fine this summer, all summer long. Then ragweed will hit in the fall and I'll start feeling bad again. So I think it's allergies.
But I need to know how I can treat these allergies. I don't have the traditional allergy symptoms. I barely get congested. I slept fine last night, but this morning I woke up with my eyes glued shut. Other than that, I didn't have any other traditional symptoms, just overwhelming fatigue, which lasted all day long until about 5 p.m. and now I feel GREAT.
