View Full Version : Peripheral Neuropathy and connection with HIV and other STDs?

I have heard a lot about peripheral neuropathy as a result of sexually transmitted diseases, esp. HIV.

I am wondering how soon the peripheral neuropathy shows up after a sexual encounter? Some people say it takes many years for it to show up in HIV, but some say it can happen in the ARS stage (2-8 weeks after sex)?

Or, can other bacterial or fungal infections enter the body via sex that would cause peripheral neuropathy and other nerve related pains? I've heard someone mention she got nerve pain in her arms and hands as a result of exposure to rat urine. She got a cortisone shot and afterwards healed with no symptoms.
