View Full Version : Has anyone gone through overlapping fifth toe surgery?

I was born with an overlapping fifth toe on my right foot. I was curious what the results are like if you have it fixed. My toe round and very flattened out looking from 18 years of shoes pressing on it. Is this shape permenant? I once taped my toe into a "normal" position to see what getting the surgery would be like but the deformed shape of my toe made it very uncomfortable in that position. I'm not even sure I'd get surgery done, but If I were to I'm curious about that if anyone has experience with it.
thanks, Scott Harris

i had an overlapping (or more like underlapping) fourth toe...on both feet... i recently had bunion surgery on both feet and had both these toes fixed/straightened. at first it felt really weird because it felt like something was missing from that toe because i had always been "stepping" on it before surgery. but at 4 weeks i've gotten pretty used to it...but it still hurts to walk on it...i guess only time will heal that.

I think I have a similar problem to yours (but have not had it fixed). By fifth toe goes under the fourth, and I walk on it all the time. I have had horrible blisters from walking on it like that, and I also taped it into position to see if that would help. It made the blisters feel better, but just felt odd. I don't know what they would have to do to fix it, but I think it would be pretty big because the problem starts at the base of my fifth metatarsal, where it pushes out too wide. I have thought about going to the doc for it, but have had bigger problems to deal with. Maybe one day I will get it fixed. Let me know if you get any infomation on it!

My small toe on my left foot has elevated itself up onto my foot
Initially it sat on my fourth toe & with some shoes or boots it caused pain in my fourth toe - it was being squashed & pushed out of shape
My father had both his small toes turned up on top of his foot
They were very thin & flat (like flabby skin) & did not hurt him as they were indented into his foot
Rather than consider amputating my toe I have trained it to rest on my foot above the toes
Have you tried this ?
It takes some time to stretch the skin but the short tendon helps because it pulls the toe up anyway
Is your overlapping toe heredity like mine ?
Do you know anyone else who has this toe phenomenon ?
My only problem is not toe discomfort but how to answer the people who ask me what happened & ask me if it hurts
Do people ask you toe questions ?
Can you move your toe ?
Regards
