Does the epley make a person dizzy every time it is done? I have had it done a couple of times and nothing happens. However, I have had spinning vertigo at times and afterward cannot tolerate laying on my right side.

I have had several epleys and walked away just fine. But the therapist put a collar on me (I was told to bring one with me the first time I went) as soon as I sat up. Had to keep it on for 48 hours to help prevent sudden or extreme head movements. Also had to sleep sitting up for two nights - all this is classic post-epley treatment. After that, not to lie on the affected side for 5 more nights. Maybe this is what you are doing? Also, even though it wasn't stressed to me, I found out the hard way not to bend over too much during those 5 days, just to be careful to give everything a chance to really stay well and truly in place. Madeleine kami-girl 04-27-2004, 01:56 PM Thanks for the reply, The strange thing for me is that I had the epley on the 15 of Apr and did not experience any worse effects than usual until the 25. I have never been told to limit activity after. Barnsley 04-27-2004, 04:30 PM Kami, I had a successful Epley too, last July. My doctor never told me to sleep sitting up, restrict head movements, etc. He told me to resume normal activity. I've also read some articles on the Internet that state the docs are now mixed as to whether having someone restrict their movements so much after the Epley really makes much, if any, of a difference. Certainly didn't seem to for me. Terri |
