Hi all,
I am Kami-girl. I am 51 years old, live in British Columbia, Canada. I have had dizzy probems since 1972. My diagnosis was damaged vestibular nerve from gentomycin toxicity after appendectomy.
I used to be able to compensate as my symptoms were mainly brain fog which lasted about 6 weeks at a time. Usually brought on by stress, sinus cold, over tired etc. 3 years ago I had my first bout of true spinning vertigo and have not been able to compensate fully since. I have had 4 more episodes since. I am finding this very stressful because it has gone on for so long and I am wondering it I have developed something new. At the time of my first vertigo attack I was under alot of stress and working many hours. At work I had an air conditioner blowing on me which was at ear level, day in and day out. I was given a course of antibiotics at the time, but I feel like I have always got a low grade infection which flares up from time to time. I also have allergies and wonder if that is a contributing factor.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi kamigirl.

Wow! suffering since 1972 - that is such a long time, even if it was "mainly brainfog". But the spinning vertigo certainly sounds as if something is going on there. I am no doctor and won't beven begin to speculate. I strongly recommend you see and ENT as soon as you can to see if there's no obvious damage to the ear. Is your spinning only with head movements - lying down, sitting up, bending down or looking up? If so it could be BPPV for which there is treatment and therapy. This is the only thing I can talk about with any degree of certainty as this is what I have. But please, do see a doctor even if the episodes are few and far between. He can then send you for tests to try and get an initial diagnosis.

Hi Kami-Girl

I have severe damage to the left side caused by Gentamicin in Garason.
Have you ever heard of Wobblers Anoymous http://www.wobblers.com/
I think you will find it very interesting, she has hundreds of people registered there just like you.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the reply. I did look at the Wobblers site and will do so again once I am feeling a little more up to it.
Can you tell me how you found out that you had a problem with Gentamincin? After all these years of chasing this monster inner ear thing I finally had a dr agree that my problem was caused by G.
I read that you are on a pension. What part of the world do you live in? I applied a few years ago and was turned down flat.
How do you manage with your disability and what symptoms do you have?

Thanks,
Kami
