Is age 18 too young to have Lasik eye surgery?

Usually it is. You have to have the same prescription for the last 5 years. Are you myopic/nearsighted? My eyes got continually more nearsighted from the time I was 15 until I was about 27.

There are a few places that will do lasik for you when you are 18 but most require that you be 21 and some even want you to be 25. Probably the biggest reason is that your eyes may still be changing. You want to wait until your perscription has stabilized because it would just be a waste to have the surgery and then have to do it again later. Some places require a stable perscription of 1 year and others say 3 years. I'm thinking about lasik but I've had a stable perscription for 3 years and am almost 30.

My doc said 22, so I'll be eligible in 11 days! Woo hoo! I did hear that humidity will effect the longevity of the surgery. Make sure to ask your doc if he adjusts the laser for humidity for maximum effectiveness. I guess the surgery has fewer incidences of side effects if it is performed in winter or in drier climates.

Good luck!

I think it's too young. In my 30's my eyes changed every year and then settled down around 37. I had lasik when I was 40. I had one eye slightly undercorrected to postpone the need for reading glasses. :)

I got Lasik done when I was 18, and I have no regrets as of yet, I'm now 22. I was seeing better than 20/20 a couple days after surgery, and it hasn't changed since then. The only complaint I have is at night or in bad lighting, there are some halo issues, but nothing major, and I think that's to be expected from Lasik. It's definately worth not having to wear glasses for.
