Hi everyone, I just recently went of the pill. I'm wondering, are there any lingering effects in the body after stopping? For instance, I've been on it for 2 1/2 years and suffered bad headaches which I think may be a link to the pills. How long should I stay off them before I could possibly notice a change? Thanks to all!

I was on Diane 35 for a bit over a year and went off them due to suffering worse and worse headaches (and i rarely get headaches). Once i went off them i noticed a change after only a week or two.

Anyone else experience positive benefits from going OFF the pill? Thanks to all!

Way back when I thought the pill was causing my migraines. I went off it and the migraines did get better althought they did not go away completely. But I couldn't handle any other type of bc. I hated condoms, heard all the horror stories about IUDs, and never got how a diaphram would be that affective. And all the other types of bc are hormon based too. Anyway so after awhile I went back on the pill but this time I tried a different brand. I have been on it for years now (with the exception of going off it to have a baby) and I have not hand any more headaches!

So it might just be the type of pills you are taking. You might not have the same reaction to a different brand. Just a thought. :)

Thanks for the advice, what brand of BC are you currently on if I may ask? Thanks again.

No problem. I'm on Ortho-Tri Cycline (sp?) It's a pretty popular one. I've never had any problems with it. No real side effects... of course everyone is different. :)

I'm in the U.S. so I don't know about austraia. But it's a very common bc pill. Very popular so it probably wouldn't be hard to get.

But you don't just have to go for that one. You can talk to your doctor about other pills that are different strenghts.

Oh and I was around your age too when I got migraines. I was on SO many perscription drugs for the migraines too. A couple of them would kill the headache but would make me so sick to my stomach that I almost wanted the headache back. And the ones that did work I would end up taking almost daily because my body would become accustom to them and it'd take more and more to work each time. Not a good cycle to get into.

What I did was switch pills, started drinking a ton of water a day, eating better, I cut out caffinated drinks, and excersized. I'm sure all of these contributed to them going away. I am now 28 and maybe have one migraine a year if that. I don't take any medication for them and can have a soda or coffee or two a day and not have to worry about headaches. It was like i had to purge them from my body or something. :)

Anyway, that's me. You might be different. The thing with migraines is that it takes awhile to figure out what's causing them. You have to play a game of process of elimination to figure out what's going on. Or you can just change everything and see what happens like I did. :) What I'm saying is that the bc pills might be an element in the headaches your getting but it might not, or it might not be the only reason. It could be diet, or an allergy, or yes the pills. Talk to your doctor and figure out a game plan to figuring out why you get the headaches.

No problem! Glad I could help. I know how annoying those headaches can be.

I'm glad you're feeling better. But just remember that no pill means you can get pregnant so be careful. :) Babies are great but they can give you headaches too. :) :)
