HI. I posted this on the preg. board but no one seemed to care to answer. Hoping someone can help. I have been on Aleese for almost two years. On my last pack of pills, during the last week of hormone pills I started spotting. Brownish in color, not real heavy...sorry to be gross! :) Anyway, it lasted until the following Tuesday which is when I normally start my period. It changed on Tuesday from the brownish colored stuff to more reddish like my period but not heavy. It isn't usually heavy anyway but probably lighter than normal I would say. I usually have my period from Tuesday to Friday night Saturday morning. Well it stopped on Thursday. I had nothing all day Thursday and then on Friday more spotting. That was until Saturday and then nothing since then. I am really usually good about taking my pills...the only thing I ever do is maybe forget and take them about and hour or two late but never do I go a whole day and forget. I read the insert with my pills when I picked them up Sunday because I wasn't sure if I should start a new pack or not. It said if spotting occurs in one cycle then keep taking the pills but see your doctor. It says if it occurs two cycles in a row to stop taking them and contact your doctor. So I have been taking them. I am just confused as to what may be going on? Could I be pregnant? I thought about taking a preg. test but then I wasn't sure if it would even be to soon because I didn't really MISS a period. Or could it be something else completely? I hope someone can help. Thanks everyone! :)

I have the same thing, yesterday I started spotting and today too. I had a dr's appointment yesterday for the yearly check up and she wasn't concern when I told her. You would think that she would know when doing a pelvic??
I am supposed to start my period next Tuesday as well. I have been on allesse for about 6 months now. I am a little concerned about being preg to, but I have never missed on either. So if they do what they are supposed to then we should ok.
Kept me posted.

Breakthrough bleeding on birth control pills can be caused by:
1) taking the pills incorrectly. There is only 24 hours worth of hormone in each pill. It is therefore very important that the pill be taken at the same time each day (give or take an hour or so). Routinely taking the pills 30+ hours apart is a recipe for bleeding midcycle and/or accidental pregnancy
2) taking antibiotics. There is some evidence that a course of antibiotics may reduce absorbtion of the pill. This can not only lead to bleeding midcycle but also to unintended pregnancy. ALWAYS tell your medical provider if you are taking BCPs and when prescribed antibiotics, use a back up birth control method (such as spermicide and condoms) until the antibiotic course is finished.
3) diarrhea or vomiting for more than 24 hours. Think about it, if you are suffering from either one for any length of time, chances are good that your pill won't be in your body long enough to be completely absorbed.
4) age. Your body changes over time. Your hormonal needs change over time. The birth control pill you start out using will NOT be the only one you will use over the course of your reproductive life.

If you have breakthrough bleeding for two consecutive cycles, call your provider and let them know.

Good luck!
