I had my Emg test done and the dr said it was negative, now I don't know what I'm supposed to do. He took blood and tested for Lyme disease. Which came back negative. Meanwhile I have both hands just about useless. I cut hair and need BOTH of my hands to work. Workers comp is paying for this. They said try chiropractor or neurologist. They really haven't given me any direction at all. I was taking Naproxen but it knocks me out  I am supposed to take it in am and pm,pm is fine I'll just go to bed...but I need to be alert during the day. Would Advil help? I have sypmtoms of Hypothyroidism which CTS is a symptom and I'm wondering if that gets under control will my CTS go away???I've picked the Thyroid board's brains....I just thought I'd ask up here too.

"Would Advil help?"
Give Advil (ibuprofen) a try. It is a NSAID (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) like naproxen. They are a little different and some work better than others for different people. I did not think any of the NSAIDs caused drowsiness. If the over-the counter stuff does not work, you might ask your doctor about vioxx or celebrex. Doctors can also prescribe higher doses of NSAIDs than what is available over-the-counter. I have had good luck with Advil.

I'm strange when it comes to most meds...if it says non drowsy I'm almost guaranteed to fall asleep.I am going to try the Advil.

An EMG test can detect carpal tunnel 85% of the time. It is not 100% accurate.

My carpal tunnel is the result of an adverse drug reaction. Have you been on any medications within the last 6 months or so?

no I don't take any meds. I have alot of Hypothyroidism symptoms but the dr keeps trying to get me to take anti-depressant meds. I refuse because I am not depressed. I take just the Advil to help with the inflammation in my wrist and the pain at the end of the day. I haven't found a good brace yet either. I cut hair and it stinks cause I need to move my hands and wrists.I see a new dr soon. I hope he/she can help.

Your problem (like mine) may be tendinopathy in the wrists, which is different from carpal tunnel, but is caused by many of the same factors. Bring this up with your doctor and see what he says.
