I have a PDD-NOS daughter who is seven years old. She has a pineal cyst measuring 15 x 13 x 12 mm. I've been hearing a lot about abnormalities in the melatonin levels of children in the autistic spectrum, and I've heard of at least two other people so far who have PDD children with problematic pineal cysts.

I'd like to know, if you know, how many of you have evidence of either pineal dysfunction or melatonin abnormalities in your autistic/PDD children. I'm hoping to compile the information I receive and submit it both to my neurologist and neurosurgeon and to any research doctor I can find.

I'm still at the beginning stages of this. I just keep hearing about this in snippets here and there, and I don't understand why no one has looked into it further-- not just "Does over-the-counter melatonin help autism," but "To what degree is the gland itself disturbed, and how does that correlate with the disorder?" The pineal gland is a member of the endocrine system, after all, and it stands to reason that a problematic pineal body would disturb the distribution of other hormones.

1) Don't mess with melatonin it has a negative feedback reaction.
2) Check her adrenaline levels too and her cortisol
3) Do use a B COMPLEX it lessens the homocystine in the body that high levels of cortisol cause. If she is fat or eats uncontrollable this is a tell tale sign of having high amounts of cortisol in the body. Follic Acid is a B vitamin and it lowers Homocystine levels PROVEN.
4) Were you drinking caffeine or green tea or diet pills or not clean of bcp months before conception how bout the husband any steroids or the same?
5) Check her thyroid and androgen levels.
6) Log her behavior when you give her the b-vitamin document it. Her urine will be yellow and a bit smelly but well worth it.
