Hi Cutebeagle2, successtory, bikerchic420, franjo

Thanks for the replies.
I do try to eat well, I love to walk, always have, and continue to do so as often as I can. As far as any other exercises, as I said, I'm afraid to try just anything for fear of making things worse. I am also in the process of looking for a new job ( this DDD somewhat narrows my options, but I'm sure I'll find something. As for vitamin C, I've been taking it for about 3 yrs now. I'll check into CalMax.
I have done alot of researh to try to understand my MRI. I guess I just started feeling like maybe I wasn't comprehending as well as I thought, because no one was taking me seriously. I guess I just needed to hear from someone that, yes,I should be taken seriously.
As far as finding a new doctor, unfortunately, that's not easy here in my part of Canada. There is an extreme shortage of doctors and none taking on new patients. When I asked my family doc for a referral to a specialist he told me that there were no good back drs in the area that could help me and sent me on my way. That didn't deter me though, I got on the net and found a neurologist in a larger nearby city at a hospital with a good rep that was willing to take on new patients. Next problem- I need a family dr to give me a referral. I recalled my hubby did work for a dr in yet another city, so ask him to ask the dr if he would be kind enough to give me a referral. He kindly complied. Unfortunately the neurologist I picked turned out to be worse than my family dr. He did the initial physical then sent me for the MRI's. When I went back for the results in Nov he had the MRI of my head but had apparently misplaced the one for my back. This left me feeling unable to ask any of the questions I had with regards to my condition or how best to care for myself because he did not have the information he needed in order to give me a well-informed response. He then requested that I call him the following Monday at which time he would go over the MRI findings. At that time he told me to get back to work and find myself some strengthening exercises to do. I called his office the following Mon, Tue,Wed, Thur,Fri. He never called back. I finally called the office to request the written copy of the MRI since it seemed he felt he was done with me. I then started my research.
So the other day I decided to call the sweet dr who gave me the referral and ask him if he would be kind enough to see me one more time and get me set up for physio etc. He once again kindly agreed and told me to call his office on Mon to set up the appointment.
So that's where I stand now. Onward and Upward!!
Take Care,
Joanne
P.S. Thanx again for listening

Hey guys,

Well I got my appointment with dr for referral to physio (Jan 23). I can't wait to start and hopefully start getting back to a more normal life, and take some of the stress off my hubby. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/love2.gif

One quick question for the ladies - How the heck do I shave my legs without hurtin'? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif

Also, does anyone have any suggestions as far as jobs to look into that are the least aggravating to our backs? It seems every job I look into is either too much sitting or too physical. Any suggestions would be welcome. I'm certain I'll come up with something,I don't accept defeat well. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif

Well Take Care All,

Hi Joanne http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif

I am so glad you are finally getting some help. I like the sweet, kind doctor (who gave you the referral). He's the one to stick with it sounds like.

As for shaving your legs. That's a doozy. If you absolutely "gotta"....have hubby do it. Or meet 'yourself' half-way....or .... have them waxed .. or if you have an electric razor (where you won't get cut), have an older child do it for you. One other thought, you could tape a razor onto a ruler (make sure it aligns) and shave that way. Practice first on a balloon with shaving cream (so you can get the idea of how hard/soft to push). Put the balloon 'down' where you're going to be shaving your leg...please practice this one first! hehe I don't want to be responsible for someone nicking up their legs http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif teehee

As far as jobs.....what about Hostessing? Another might be as a shopper for a large grocery store chain (they go around and shop for stuff, and testing stores to make sure they are "following code" and stuff like that)--my hubby did that one. There are also jobs called "joggers" where you simply walk from home to home putting doorknob advertisements on doors. Pizza places are big on these jobs. Ummmm....if you are good with a computer, typing up papers for college students (your own computer-your own time)...or maybe you can transcribe dictations for companies. I did that one year where I'd pick up the transcription tapes of letters people dictated (one customer was a law firm and another was a financial firm) and return the finished product a week later...while picking up another package to transcribe. Things change, so I'm not doing that anymore...but maybe you can? Anyway, those are some of my ideas...hope something sparks an idea for you! Good luck.

Were glad that your taking the initiative and
starting therapy soon. Hopefully you can get
yourself into pool therapy and maybe try Pilates.
You can probably pick up a few exercises by
typing pilates in a search engine. Be careful
in physical therapy if they have you start
on those weight lifting machines. Tell the
therapist if indeed that is the course he
or she takes that you want to lift or push
very light weight only. Good Luck!!
