Hello everyone,
I am new to this message board. I was diagnosed with Acute Refractory Rheumatoid Arthritis a few years ago. That has been a long and challenging ordeal to say the least.
Three weeks ago I landed in the hospital in serious condition with a white blood count of 3, hemoglobin of 7 and platelets of 51. I was severely dehydrated since I hadn't been able to keep any food down for quite some time. Any way, long story short, I spent 15 days in the hospital and the team of doctors did all kinds of tests. First a CT scan to find out where to look. Then they did a brocialscope, bone marrow biopsy and a lymph node biopsy.
The broncial scope indicated that I had PCP pneumonia. They gave me a blood transfusion, tons of hydration. I ran a temp of 104 degrees for four days.
The lymph node biopsy came out clear. No lymphoma
But the bone marrow indicates Myelodysplasia syndrome. I saw the hemotologist/oncologist yesterday and she informed me that I have about a 50/50 chance of developing Acute Leukemia in the next 6 months. I am right in the middle of the fence. It could go either way for me.
I am posting to find out if there are others out there like me and their challenge with MDS.
Happy Days.
