Hello, I saw my hemotologist/onocologist today. Here are some results
WBC 3.7
LYM 1.9
MID 0.2
GRAN 1.6
RBC 4.68
HBG 13.5
HCT 38.7
MCV 82.6
MCH 28.8
MCHC 34.9
PLAT 305.
MY WBC are low the should be 4.1-10.9 and my GRAN are low they should be 2.0-7.8. My friend just suggested a disease called myelodyplastic syndrome which is a prelude to AML, Her son had it and died. Does anybody have any information on myelodysplastic syndrome or any other info to share. Some history: I am a 29 yr old female with a 12 year history of chronics low WBC counts although my gran has never been low before!!!

Also my hemotologist does not seem to concerned, should I get a second opinion?

I certainly cannot give you medical advice but I do work in a lab, so here is my two cents.
If you are really concerned but all means for your own peace of mind, get a second opinion! Do you have any other symptoms? Right now your H&H and your platelets look to be in the normal range.
Have you asked your onocologist about your concerns, specifically Myelodysplasia and AML? I'm sure you can find information on the internet.

chayse, I don't really have any symptoms except I have lost 11 lbs since Jan. I weigh 117 now and I am 5'7" so I don't really mind the weight loss but I am a little concerned at why I suddenly dropped 11lbs in 5 months. This has never happened before. I am usually pretty stable when it come to my weight. I thought that maybe it could be some post preg. weight loss. My son will be 4 next month. I am now 1lb less than I was before I got preg. I am worried that my Onc/hem dr will get upset or feel I don't trust his opinion if I ask for a second opinion. He is one of the only onc/hem doc for miles around her. To get a second opinion I will have to drive 3 hours to the rosswell cancer institute in Buffalo, NY. I am not sure it is worth the drive and all the drama involved. If I ask to get a second opinion will my current onc/hem doc still see me if I want him to? Thanks in advance for any advice you give.

Hello again.
Have you discussed all of your concerns with your Onc/hem Dr.??
Have you had any other lab work done? Perhaps a complete physical to rule out some cause for your weight loss.
Is your Dr. easy to talk to?
I can't tell you how your Dr. would react if you ask for a second opinion, but i hope that he would be ok with it. You haven't said what you talked with your present about. Ask for specifics. I recently took care of my husband through a long illness. It pays to be informed and as active in your health care as possible.
Since another hem/onc doc is some distance explore what you have available and if you still feel concern it may be worth the trip. I can't tell you what you should do that is totally up to you. All I can do is offer an opinion since you asked.
There are so many reasons why blood results vary.
Good Luck

Dropped another 5lbs.
Freaking out!
I'm now 5'7" 112lbs, What is going on?? I see dr on tuesday.
No other symptoms except loss of appatite, slight fatique and strange bleeding. I don't have any weird bruising or anything but when I injure myself even slightly I bleed a lot and my gums have been bleeding other examples this winter my lip was chapped and started to bleed in a little crack, it bled for 4 hours I went to the drs then because I thought I might be anemic turns out I was not, also the last x they drew blood my arm bruise up the vein all the way up my arm, this never happened before.
Help anybody!!!!
I read a post lately but I can't remember where it was but I think I remember it saying something about a test that tells the ratio of red blood cells that are functioning. Anybody know anything about this?

Thank you
