Hi all
I'm new to the board. I have a 12 year old son who had been diagnosed at 5 with ADD. Now it appears that he has been misdiagnosed for quite some time. He was just diagnosed with PDD-NOC along with the ADD.
Does anyone else out there have an older child with both PDD_NOC and ADD? The school is still trying to put together the IEP. They had been waiting for the diagnosis. Any suggestions as to what to expect?

Hi JTmom,
I have a 11 year old with ADHD and PDD. Was diag. w/ADHD @ 7 or 8 I forget. So much has happened. Was disg. w/PDD at 9 and has TSS for school and physicologist (more than one). We have what is called wrap around services which is funded by the state. Our child is disabled (with ADHD and PDD) and qualifies for funding and services.
Has been a struggle and still is but making headway.
Check out our newest try at www.simplybrainy.com
Just keep at it with the IEP, push as hard as you can. Remember you child is disabled and they are required to assist you.

Thanks for your reply. I will check out your links. I could kick myself, because I should have pushed harder earlier, but whenever I would bring up concerns, the schools and doctors would just say, well the ADD must not be properly controlled, here try this med.....
Could you tell me what Wrap Around Service is?
My son will be in 7th grade next year (middle school). Right now we have him in a parochial school, which is a smaller, safer environemnt for him. Even the public school psych wants my son to stay in the parochial settings, with the public school's guidence and support. I understand that group therapy for social skills is what is needed, but most everything I've seen so far seems to be geared to little kids. I'm not sure how they go about teaching it to older kids.
Thanks a lot for your response.

Well- if he has been handling being in a regular classroom for this amount of time- he is not going to be considered "disabled" enough to qualify for WrapAround. My son is 12, has always been in a regular classroom without an aide- No one has ever considered him "disabled" or not "normal"- because simply, he is not disabled, and he is normal. In fact, he is better behaved, has more empathy, is nicer and has a far stronger work ethic than most his age.
Have you seen the behaviors of some of their peers? ugh. He learns differently-period. He was taught social skills, manners, and morals, just like his siblings- as he has to live in this world, not one made up of "special" people. When he is an adult, society is certainly not going to care what Dx or "label" he has if he is a holy terror, disruptive or obnoxious.
