Good luck to both of you! With modern medical technology and safeguards, I am sure you will do fine. I am five weeks postop ACDF and PCDF with plates at C2-3, C3-4, C4-5 and C5-6 and it was no picnic but I am doing better every day and although I am still having muscle spasms the Percocet and Flexeril help a lot. I just do what I can and try not to do anything I shouldn't. I am 74 years old and this was quite extensive spinal surgery for anyone, and even more so for a person of my vintage. The up side is I have lost 20 pounds and I feel better because of that too, as this is the first time in almost 20 years I have been down to a normal weight. I will have to wear the hard collar for at least two more months, but I am used to it and can take it off at night so I can sleep well. Good luck. I too was very apprehensive about the surgery but it turned out great for me and I am sure it will for you too! Good bless!

Hi, Our prayers are with you , all will go well and before you know it , it will be all over. You remind me of my cousin, she had this huge hernia in her abodomin, it stuck out so far, she too was very scared to have surgery and kept putting it off, well she had it and is doing just great, and now says she should of had it done long before, for she lived with the pain and fear for so long and then it was all over and she feels great. I know any surgery can scare you but just think of all the pain you have been in, and before you know it you will be pain free. Best of luck, you are in my prayers and I know all will go great.

wastefulltick my prayers are with you too. I understand you are worried, I was too, but I have done this surgery twice and I am just fine. I am fused at c5-c6 and c6-c7. They used my bone the first time and donor bone the second along with a plate and screws. It is amazing how much better I felt after the surgeries. Watch all negative self talk and replace it with positive talk about just how good you are going to feel when this is behind you. Have a little faith  God be with you!

wastefultick, I know how you feel. I was so scard to have surgery, mostly because I
have 2 pre-teen girls and I want to be around to take care of them. I had the same
fear you had about dying and pain and just everything. When my morning of surgery finally came, I just sort of turned on auto-pilot and went through all the motions and before I knew it, I was out and it was over..
I will say a prayer for you tonight. You will soon have it all behind you..I am 8 weeks post op and almost (fingers crossed) totally pain free.
Best of luck, let us know how you are as soon as you feel up to it..

I am glad to hear you are in less pain now, it is always good when the surgery results are immediate/ I think I can honestly say I am not really in any less pain but not in any more either. I am almost 2 weeks post op and hoping for more strength daily. I wish you a speedy recovery
