I'm 26 years old. I've already had thyroid cancer and have had my thyroid removed. I just went for my annual at my gyno and she felt a mass under on my left breast. She is sending me for a mammogram friday. I've been having sharp pains in that breast on and off for a few years now but didn't think anything of it. Is that a bad sign? And does a mammogram hurt? I am scared to death but I know the good Lord has brought me thru and He will again.

I do not know how your symptoms relate to the possiblity of breast cancer. But I wanted to tell you about the mamogram. It is a xray and not invasive. I have them every few years as a health screen. In fact i am going on Fri AM.
The procedure is a somewhat uncomfortable depending on how tender your breasts might be. But after everything you must have been through don't panic about the procedure. You did not say if they are also doing a biopsy with it I don't know anything about that. I hope I didn't cause you more stress. I hope your outcome is positive.

Hi I was 24 when i had my first mamogram so i can understand your concerns. The mamogram is not painful at all and is a very simple method , its just like having an xray you dont feel a thing . Im 27 and going in for a second next week , i dont have a mass in breast but its in my arm pit , i also have alot of bone pain , breast pain etc.

Have had the lump under arm since 24 yrs of age , however lately its got slighter bigger and pain associated with it , it is firm and a slight bit mobile , it used to be more mobile than it is now

I have the exact same thing..mine is about the size of a grape..my underarm is sore from it..are the doctors concerned about it? I keep getting the blow off..I am soo sick of it..I am soo worried about having breast cancer ..

I really can't tell that much when I touch my breast. I know a woman suppose to check her breast regulary but I never did. Of course now I wish I had been checking since I was alot younger, maybe I'd have noticed it. So far a biopsy hasn't been mentioned. I guess they are going to wait to see what the mammogram shows. I have no idea when I will get the results back from it. How long does it usually take?

i had one done also at age of 27...was a lil uncomfy but not bad. They also had to do a ultrasound because mamms arent real reliable in women our age, i assume theyll do the same for you maybe. I had a lump in left breast, the did lumpectomy and i was knocked out during it. All was negative for cancer, it was sclerosing adenosis. breast cancer runs rampant in family. Good luck to you!

I went for my mammogram today. It was not as painful as I imagined. Actually, it didn't hurt at all. The radiographer said she couldn't tell much from the pictures. So I guess I'll get to have an ultrasound next. But I feel very hopeful because she said the mammogram showed nothing.
