I've been told that I have a slight curvature of my spine (scoliosis) by my doctor. Does anyone know if this can cause ribcage disorders. I wake up in the morning and I am so stiff in my upper chest and ribcage. Sometimes I have so much pain that when I stretch and put my hands over my head, something literally "pops" in the top of my chest. I get this during the day too especially if I slouch or hunch over too much. Any suggestions anyone has would be appreciated.

I know it has been a long time since you posted this question... but I just found this board and read your message regarding scoliosis and rib cage pain. Well, I have scoliosis (30 degrees top and bottom... doesn't effect me too much)... and I too have pain in my rib cage once in a while that lasts a few weeks or so. I started having these weird symptoms about 5 years ago... at first I thought it was stomach related... but it seemed to travel to different locations around my ribs. I discovered it is called COSTACHONDRITIS... which is a swelling of the cartilage around your ribs. I think that, although I'm thin, my bra often becomes tight around the ribs... I also get pain in my sternum. I don't know if scoliosis is really responsible... but it's probably related in some ways. Anyway, ask your doctor about that.

Hi everyone!
I have severe scoliosis and occasionally experience rib pain. Though, like the previous poster, I'm not sure if they're related. I have heard from doctors that, in some cases, ribs may have to be removed to alleviate the pressure caused on the lungs and heart. My guess is that the ribs are affected by scoliosis, depending on severity and location.....franjo
