I recently had to get a psych evaluation for social security/disability because I am taking amitriptyline and depakote for pain. I have some form of neuropathy, specific diagnosis is in process. I am in constant severe pain in most of the lower half of my body. Anyway, the psychologist said that I have adjustment disorder because of my disability. He however, can't treat me, but said that the medicine I'm taking "should" keep me out of any serious danger psychologically. The thing is, I played down my symptoms during the evaluation. I have been pretending that things aren't as bad as they really are, with everyone, including my husband. My mother has major depressive disorder, and she suffers serious panic attacks. She has attempted suicide three times, two overdoses and once she did the running car in the garage thing. My brother found her twice and I found her once. I don't want to offend anyone, but I don't want what she has. I know I'm depressed, I don't go out anymore, I have stopped talking to all of my friends and most of my family. I was just wondering how serious is adjustment disorder? Am I at risk of serious mental problems because of heredity? And my husband would like to know what kinds of things he should be on the lookout for, like danger signs that I'm going down mentally.
Thanks for any advice.
