In the past I have taken paxil and that actually helped very well with my ocd in fact alot of the symptons I had like checking to make sure the doors were locked 20 some times a night and checking the stove to make sure it was off constantly have never returned in almost 7 months. I am however obsessing over the house again ( wanting everything organized and clean )and I went off the Paxil about 7 months ago due to weight gain and no sex drive and now I am on Wellbutrin and everything seems worse with my OCD !! I have only been on it 9 days so I dont know if things will get better but I want to know what medicine to talk with my dr about next ??

Thankyou soo much !
God Bless

I am NO EXPERT, but I have heard that Wellbutrin does not help with OCD and can make it worse. AGAIN, I am NOT A DOC, this is just what I have heard (from an OCD expert, Dr. Michael Jenike). I would post some links, but we are not allowed here. Do some research on OCD meds. As far as I know, they are: Luvox, Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa and Anafranil (anafranil is a tricyclic med, the others are all SSRI's.) I am on Effexor, and even though it isn't an OFFICIAL OCD med, it helps me a lot and docs are using it more and more for OCD. Hope this helps!

I too was on Paxil CR, for Generalized anxiety disorder. I went off of it because of the sexual side effects and was prescribed Lexapro. Much better! About 95% as effective as Paxil with many less side effects (for me anyway :)). Has also helped with my problems with OCD.

Good luck!

I have heard that same thing about Wellbutrin. In fact, my doc wouldn't give it to me because she said it would increase my anxiety. I am on Effexor XR and it has been a miracle for me.

i dont think this will be much help but just letting u know about my husbands dealings with wellbutrin. it wasnt good he stayed on it for a few months and realized it really wasnt worth it. he said the side effects were horrendous and that it took him a good few weeks to even feel like he was a human again he said he felt more depressed and anxious than ever. he said it slowly sort of passed but still sucked!! i myself wouldnt try it but im very med sensitive.

Whew no I took Wellbutrin when I was trying to quit smoking and it made my anxiety so much worse. This was before I realized I had OCD. I had always known there was some anxiety there. I developed insomnia. I couldn't sleep a wink at night and woke up feeling wide awake in the morning. I smoked MORE! LOL I wound up stopping because it was not helping at all
