I just posted about what antidepressants have worked for others with OCD and now I am wondering if what I have should be classified as OCD ? I do know that when things in the house seem to get out of order or I see a bunch of little tasks around the house that need to be done I feel so overwhelmed that I could scream and I turn into this screaming mother and wife ! I had OCD problems for a few years with always making sure the doors were locked many times prior to bed and checking the oven many times prior to bed as well and always have to go the bathroom everytime I got up even if I had just gone 5 minutes prior it was like I just had to make sure I had every drop of pee out !! LOL how weird is that ??? I went on paxil and the ocd's all seemed to disappear and things were good except I was always tired and I gained 30 pounds and had no desire for sex ! Well 7 months later the ocd symptons I mentioned have not returned but I am being very fanatical about the house again and I am assuming since I have ocd with those other issues this is probably due to my ocd as well ?

Can an antidepressant sometimes cure you of a certain ocd ? It is so weird how I have never had the desire to do those things like I once did but the part about having a perfect organized house has reared its ugly head again !

Has anyone else dealth with this kind of stuff ? Sometimes I feel like I am just going crazy and when I start to feel overwhelmed like with all the spring clean up in the yard I tend to just get in a mean mood for days !!

Wondering if anyone else has been in my boat or just understands ?

God Bless !

I truly think that beside medication, they dont put enough emphasis of behavior therapy in conjunction with medication to stop certain forms of OCD. I myself don't think just medication cures OCD, it helps with thoughts, and keeps it from manifesting to more extreme degrees, but behavior therapy instituted with it, will help.

I have a slight touch of OCD, but my partner has a huge OCD problem. Her thing is cleaning up behind me. When I just cloroxed a kitchen??? it drove me crazy thinking she thought I wasn't clean enough...but then I realized her OCD was controlling her behavior. I've learned to just let her do the extreme and reclean it rather than complain about her behavior. It only makes them feel more pressure because they can't help it. But yes, cleaning or oragnizing and making the functions of your household to appear picture perfect, represent OCD.

I think it definitely represents OCD. I freak out if my house isn't clean and organized. Things have been improving for me over the past few months and I've learned to put some of my OCD behind me. It's hard but I'm learning that nobody is perfect and I don't have to have a perfectly organized house to be happy.

Ohhh my poor mom is in bad health and she has OCD as well as many other health problems. EVEN during her roughest times, she HAS to get up and clean house or at least sweep and dust and do dishes. Its like the pressure builds up even if others have cleaned the house its not really cleaned UNLESS and UNTIL she cleans it herself. Every inch of it. Then she feels relief, for that day. Next day it starts all over again.
We noticed it was really bad when we got her someone to come in and clean for her and help her bathe and stuff like that and we found out she was CLEANING before this woman came to the house. That way the house would be clean by the time the cleaning lady would come over. Otherwise according to mom, how COULD she live like that??? TO have someone come over to a dirty house. My moms house is always spotless but its a struggle for her to keep it that way. She has to dust almost every single day. She can barely move but its her compulsive behavior.
I just had surgery and shes been calling me up to 3 or 4 times a day asking me if she can come over and help clean my house. I keep telling her no its fine and im not doing any major cleaning till im healed and its like this is taking over her life now. Her needing to come over and clean my house. Its like shes stressed out cause i said no. She has a control issue as well. People dont say no to her often cause she harps on things till she wears people down.

paxil and other antidepressant meds often do help with OCD, sometimes you need to swap to another antidepressant after a while

Not to make light of your problem (heaven knows I have enough OCD tendencies of my own) but you are all welcome to come to my house anytime! I don't have the slightest compulsion in the area of house-cleaning and it shows!

I hope to one day be able to say that to everyone. What a change that would be!
