Hello
I understand there is probably an increase in BP while sitting /standing
For instance I can be seated and take my BP it is 122/80
When I get up and walk around for 5 mins if I take it is usually
138-140 over 90 ???
If I sit down again within a couple of minutes it is normal range again??
Any ideas or is this normal??
Thanks

Towzer,
Don't worry, this is normal. Blood pressure is supposed to fluctuate.
True hypertension is when your #s are always elevated at rest.
Blood pressure is very variable and it changes for a number of reasons. Blood pressure elevates when we are in pain, upset, immediately after exercise ( yes, even after walking around for 5 mins), while we are talking, after smoking and immediately after using caffeine. Elevation of our blood pressure during these circumstances does not indicate hypertension or future harm.
Blood pressure can vary by as much as 50-70mmHg for systolic and 20mmHg diastolic depending on how and when it is measured. So, if you measure your blood pressure after walking around for 5 mins. it definitely would be higher.
... If it hasn't come back down to your normal after at least 5 mins rest, it's only then that you should be concerned.
