View Full Version : Lump on breast

Ok, I jsut turned 40 and it seems everyone keeps wanting to shove it down my throat!! All these medical tests are driving me crazy!

I recently went in for a physical. Had pap smear and manual breast exam. I won't go in to the pap smear as I have covered the abnormalities of that elsewhere.

My question is, I have what I consider to be a mass on my right breast, closer to the breast bone than the breast itself. I would guess it is about 2 inches long and maybe 1/2 inch in width. Anyway, when my doctor did the manual exam, she didn't think anything about it. I really didn't notice it until about 6 months ago but it definitely is something new, as far as I can tell. So, what do you think? I have no other symptoms, but am not sure I would have any as it seems often times, women find these things just by doing the normal self examination. Should I be concerned? No history of breast cancer in my immediate family.

Only 10% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have a family history of the disease. Get it checked out. Ask for an ultrasound and a mammogram. My OBGYN tried to blow off the lump I had in my breast telling me I was too young to have breast cancer. She was wrong, and if I had listened to her and not insisted on an ultrasound I might be in pretty bad shape today.

If nothing else, won't you feel better about it when your tests come back that everything is ok?
