Okay, this is a kind of random question to post on a weight loss site, but since many of you seem knowledgable about nutrition and drinking water is one of the first things you're told to do to lose weight...I'll go for it.

I'm just wondering how I know if I'm drinking too much. I know it's possible to, and that athletes are told not to drink more than 8-16 ounces an hour because of all the salt they're losing. But I'm not much of an athlete :). And I eat a lot of salt. Still, I've been known to drink 3 liters in under an hour, and definitely between 6 and 10 every day (that is, when I'm home and working at my desk. Even if I go to school all day I probably drink between 5 and 8). I know there's no formula for how much is too much, but how will my body let me know if it is water-logged or salt-deprived?

Thanks!

Too much math. After doing it, 6-10 liters a day is probably not too much. The numbers I've heard are in the 4-5 gallon range. 3 liters in under an hour, however, is being risky. No matter what you're doing, you don't need that much water at one time. The symptoms, if you happen to get any, could be similar to those of dehydration.

I'm just a newbie on this board but a good way to know wether or not you're drinking too much water is if when you go pee it doesn't have any yellow in it. That means the water that you're drinking is just going staight through your body, that you're giving your body so much water that it only has the time to go in one way and out the other without giving you any of the benefits that water normally provides.
