YAY!! I'm so happy for you! I can't wait to hear how it goes. I'm also waiting to get a pump so I'll learn a little through your experiences. Congratulations! By the way, did it come to your house or to your doc's office? Just wondering how this goes.

Just converted to a pump 2 months ago and it is awesome. Almost like being normal again. For the first few weeks try to eat the same thing everymeal so you can get your basil correct. Its all in the carb counting once you get your basil down. I tested every hour for a few days to see what it was doing. Also keep a good log. You will see very quick where you need tuning. Changing sites and all is pretty easy. Took me a few days to get used to wearing it but now I forget its on

Congratulations Shawn! It's so exciting when your pump first arrives, and you want to be pumping NOW! Makes it hard to wait for the training.
One thing you can do before your training appointment is to go through the video and the book, and learn all the buttons. It's really great preparation for the day you get started.
Good luck and keep us posted. When is your training appointment?
Ruth
P.S. Did you get the Paradigm 512? I just got upgraded from a 511 to the 512, and the new features are awesome!

I really can't wait. I've been playing around with the buttons and some of the supplies these last few days and everyone from Deltec has been extremely helpful and comforting.
Sharon, the pump was mailed to my house. It did take a long time to come but that was due to stalling of my insurance company. My first training appt is for this Monday. The trainer and I already discussed that I will be on saline for the first few days to get comfortable with the pump (while still taking my current insulin shots). She also is already starting to derive a treatment plan for once I start with insulin.
The staff at Deltec, and the suppliers of my pump (National Diabetic Pharmacy) make me feel like I have a very supportive team standing by me which I think well be greatly beneficial in this process. The support alone has me hooked. It's rare that you find people who will go that extra mile to HELP you with your diabetes rather than LECTURE you on what you should have done.
I also really appreciate this site because I realize that I'm not alone in this struggle.
Again I'll keep everyone posted.

I know how excited you are. It is a wonderful feeling when you know you aren't going to have to spend all of your time guessing. We are going through an insurance change right now but a new pump is the 1st thing on my priority list right now. Good luck and Congratulations!!!
