I have terrible seasonal allergies. Even seeing someone outside mowing their lawn makes me feel like I'm going have a sneezing fit. :) Right now I use Tylenol Severe Allergy pills. It says non-drowsy daytime use but as I'm sitting here I feel like my head and limbs are slowly disconnecting from my body. I obviously need to try something new. Does anyone use any OTC allergy medicine that they swear by?

Claritin just went OTC a few months ago in the US. It is VERY effective and nonsedating. There are generic versions - I buy the Walmart brand and it works just as well.
Things like Tylenol Severe Allergy really don't contain the most effective antihistamines available.

I was thinking about trying Claritin. I'm glad to hear that it's non-sedating. I don't know why Tylenol Daytime seems to have the opposite effect on me. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely be trying it.

I know what you mean about sneezing fits. Even if I see a cat, I start to sneeze (just thinking about it now made me sneeze! LOL)
I don't know many non-prescriptions, since I've been on allergy medicine for a while. If you have insurance and a doctor I would reccommend going to see him/her, because they can prescribe you something and in the long run it may be cheaper (if you have a cheap co-pay at the pharmacy). Zyrtec (SP?) is one that I used to swear by, it works really well. I found that Allegra made me jittery. Or you could just go the route I'm going... ALLERGY SHOTS! Fun fun.. hehe. But they're working really well, so I shouldn't complain :)

Hi Twizliz,
Just seeing the word "cat" in your post made my nose start to itch lol. I swear, all my friends have either cats or dogs so I always have to have people over to my house because I can't be in their house for more than a minute.
Anyway, I do have a cheap co-pay so it might be worthwhile to see my doctor. I never really thought about taking that route. I just want relief fast so I was going into the drugstore to buy anything I could get my hands on. My sister also suffers from pretty bad allergies and she was getting shots last year. They worked well for her for a while. I'll have to look into all these options.

I use Alevert(otc). I had daily headaches/facepain/earaches until the doctor told me to try Alevert. For flares use it along with Flonase. Now, I am headache free.
