View Full Version : Insulin Pump Tape

I have been pumping for almost 7 years now, but still have problems with my infusion site tape.

Do any pumps have suggestions or ways that you prepare for tape application to prevent it from coming off, getting water under it (during showers), or bubbling off when you sweat?

I use IV Prep, which leaves a sticky residue on the skin to help the tape adhere to the skin. Then, I apply the tape that looks like it has little fibers running through it. Finally, I apply the clear tape. This is fine until I take a shower, or do some activity that causes me to sweat.

Also, do any female pumpers place their infusion sites somewhere other than their stomaches?

Thanks!

When I had lifting, I always reapplied the IV prep on that area and put it back down. I used my hips on occasion and had no problems.

When I went swimming or took a shower, I would disconnect, place the tape like they put on an IV site on the infusion site and reconnect when I was finished. You can get that tape where you get your pump supplies. Good luck and I know others will have more suggestions

I use the IV prep, let it dry thoroughly, and then place an IV3000 tape over the area, then I insert my site through the IV3000 tape. I've rarely had trouble with the tape lifting off, and I shower daily. If you're a MiniMed customer, call their tech support and tell them you're having a problem...they'll send you a bunch of samples of various tapes, sticky stuff, etc. to try.

I use my abdomen and the back of my hips/upper buttocks area. I've occasionally used the upper thigh area, but I find it somewhat inconvenient, so I don't use it often.
