Hi. I'm new here. I've been having some problems since 2/2nd. I am 1-3/4 years out from having had breast cancer. I'm 47 and was diagnosed at 45.
I had invasive ductal carcinoma and comedo dcis, very small, 9 mm, I had a lumpectomy, resection and 6 weeks of radiation. My histology was estrogen negative, progesterone negative, her2neu 3+ and the dcis was nuclear grade 3 of 3.

I began having lower abdomen pain and problems in January. (I have had a hysterectomy 12 yrs ago and the only things I have left are the ovaries and tubes.) My GP sent me for a CT scan and sonogram of the abdomen. The CT scan showed a left adnexal lesion and the sonogram showed diverticulosis. 6 weeks later I had another sonogram of the pelvis. That sonogram made no mention of the left adnexal lesion but stated I had a paraovarian cyst adjacent to the right ovary. 6 weeks later I had another sonogram which continued to show the paraovarian cyst on the right side. My GP told me to go to a gyn but I sought out a gyn/oncologist who told me to have another sonogram in 6 weeks. I had that sonogram last week. It showed a complex cyst inside the left ovary and another Lesion (very small but that's what they called it in the report) also in the left ovary. The left ovary had doubled in size since the test 6 weeks prior. The right ovary still had the paraovarian cyst and also had a follicle inside of it. All of these things are 2 cm or less in size.

The gyn/onc told me he is not concerned about what's in there. He feels they are 98% benign but what he is concerned about is the fact that I had breast cancer and am therefore at a higher risk for ovarian cancer. I'm so sick of tests and this has me so worried that right now I just want it all removed. The doctor said he would do that but he wanted me to understand that it would be for preventative reasons, not because of what is in there now. He also told me that surgically induced menopause in a patient who cannot ever take hormones (because of my hormone receptors from the breast cancer) can cause many other problems.

I'm very depressed about this. I am a very easy going person and I'm scared to death for one that I will fall into the 2% category of having cancer in there and secondly, that my personality will change and I will be miserable with all of the menopausal symptoms from having it all removed. I feel I am darned if I don't and darned if I do.

I would love to hear from someone who may have been in this same situation at somtime .... I really am in need of guidance as to what to expect from surgicaly induced menopause and would love to know of any natural ways of helping me to get thru that, such as evening primrose etc.

As it stand today, I am having another sonogram on 6/14 and will see the doc on 6/23 and at that time surgery will be scheduled for August. I still have an underlying fear tho that if cancer is in there I'm giving it almost 3 more months to do its thing.

Any responses would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks,
Diana

Hi Diana:

My mom has been using black cohosh to help with her menopausal symptoms. I wish I had some other information I could impart to you regarding your situation, but hopefully someone else who has had similar experiences will be able to advise you.

Hang in there!
Tina

Hi! I know wondering if cancer will recurr is a horrible thing! I also know first hand about Surgical Menopause. Last year I had a radical hysterectomy, and could not be on hormone therapy due to my type of cancer. Uterine(stage3c). I will be honest, it was rough at first, but it is begining to get better. Yes, I still have hot flashes, but not as bad. In the begining I had alot of night sweats, but that could of also been from all the treatments. I wish you luck and if you havy any questions please ask. Take care. Nicole
