I just now quite eating refined sugar food like cinnamon oatmeal and ice pops. But I just saw that even the "good foods" like whole wheat bagels etc. have alot of sugars, I was wondering if that's ok. If I can have sugars from good foods and just stay away from refined sugars like the ones in junk food. Or if the bagels aren't good for me either, even if they are whole wheat, please help. I tend to ask alot of questions that go unanswered on this board, so I hope this thread is diffeent, thanks ahead of time :)

It depends on the ingredients in the bagels...if sugar is mentioned in there, it is probably still refined sugar. On the other hand, how much fiber is there in the bagels? If you are trying to lower your carbs as well, fiber has no impact on blood sugar, and is not counted as carbs. One kind of sugar you should still eat is the sugar from fruits. They may still affect blood sugar levels, but fruit has many many good things that outweigh that. The most important thing to do is look at the labels...if it says "sugar," "high fructose corn syrup," or anything of that nature, it's probably not a good choice.

Can I ask you what the reason is behind this? Most things have sugar in them, or they turn to sugar like white things. Whole wheat is made with enriched flour which means mixed with white flour. So when you see whole wheat, it ain't so. Stone ground wheat is usually all wheat. You need to read the labels, it will start off telling you wholewheat flour and enriched which mean white also. Look for wholewheat only
Pasta, bagles, potatoes turn to sugar fast, but if your not diabetic you don't have to worry too much about it.
Fruits have natural sugars but are still sugar. If your just cutting out sugar for your own self, cut out the junk food, chips, fries, sodas. Whole wheat bagel are fine in moderation for a person with no sugar problem. White bread is sugar also.
People live on salads but they put on Yummy dressings and wonder why they aren't loesing weight..Good dressings are loaded with fats and sugar.

It's hard to explain all in a paragraf but you get the idea. It isn't just candy that has sugar. Even the candy or anything that says "No Sugar" if you read the back, you with see sugar alcohols, or anything ending in ol you never saw before is a sugar. So people eat it thinking or believing no sugar in it.
Corn is loaded with sugar, ketchup, BBQ. Ok? Questions ask, I will be happy to try and help you. :D
