Is it possible not to eat enough at a meal? Would that make a glucose reading higher? I am not on medication and usually have the same thing for breakfast (low carb (23 gr.) bagel, lox, cream cheese, coffee) and my before lunch number has been 90-95. The last few weeks it has been in the low 100's and that bothers me. I realize that 102 or 104 is a great reading but I wish I knew why it's risen from the 90's. This morning I even exercised for about 20 minutes after breakfast and my before lunch reading was 102. My husband thinks I should be happy with those readings but....... Anyone have any suggestions?

Noodles886,
Are you diabetic or hypoglycemic?
The reason I ask is that I'm Reactive Hypoglycemic. I
guess I don't see any problem with your numbers. I
don't think that they are different enough to worry
about. What exactly concerns you about these numbers?
Do you feel any differently than you usually do?
Just concerned and curious.

I am diabetic and was diagnosed in February. I don't feel any differently with the higher reading but worry that maybe my control isn't as good as it was. This month it creeps up to low 100's; maybe next month 110+. Trying to not go on medication...doctor is letting me try and control with diet and exercise.

I guess I would be content with the fact that your numbers are as close as they are... especially being diabetic. My friend's son is diabetic and his numbers are all over the place. He takes insulin and even with that his numbers can be all over the place. I know that it's a frustrating thing, because I've dealt with this also. Sometimes we think that we are in control of our bodies, when really we never are "totally" in control. We are really afraid of the unknown. Sometimes by attempting to control every aspect of our life, we lose the happiness that we once had. In addition, we are really out of control by trying to be in control. Does that make sense? I've literally had to pray that God would help me every hour. My blood sugar was so off that it would drop to 35-40 every 2 hours.
The one thing that I've learned through this process is that every day is a gift. What we chose to do with it is up to us, but just in case tomorrow doesn't come... I'm going to enjoy it within the parameters that I'm given.
It sounds like you have a good handle on it. You seem to be eating regularily, exercising moderately, etc. I would just take one day at a time... If tomorrow there is a REAL problem, then you can worry then. Otherwise, worrying today won't help. Don't you agree? God bless!!

I would not worry. First of all, glucometers give ranges not necessarily precise readings. But still, so many other things can effect your readings... stress, menstrual cycle, what you ate the day before, excercise, etc...
This morning I went for a walk before I ate breakfast. My prewalk reading was 93 (my fasting bg). I walked 1.5 miles and then when I got home I tested at 101. Doesn't make sense, but I am not concerned... I just assume that the glucometer gave me a range, the range is a satisfactory result, so I am happy.

Noodle, I forgot to mention... it sounds like you are doing very well with control. Its great to keep your numbers under 100, but actually anything under 120 is considered good control for a diabetic.
I don't necessarily aim at a specific number to consider myself controlled. Instead I look to maintain my readings at a consistant level throughout the day - that is my goal. For example, If my fasting reading in the morning is 105, I try to keep myself as close to that as possible all day before and after meals, after excercise, etc. Obviously the numbers will go up slightly after meals, but I watch for them to come back down to that level in a reasonable timeframe. I don't try to lower my numbers just for the sake of getting under 100.
Of course if my number were high, then I would try to lower it, but here I am speaking about numbers within normal range.
Man I wish I could get those levels. There is nothing that I know of bad with reading s of 102.
My problem is I can't get under a 100. And boy have I tried. First I thought not eating would work. No way Jose. The body kicks into starvation mode and up the bs goes. Then I tried eating just the right amount as prescribed by diabetes dietian. With 45-60 grams of carbs per meal and then a 15-30 gram snack before bed. Again no success. Right now my bs has settled in to the 130-160 range.
Tomorrow I go back to the doctor. I will learn my 3 month number. Yikes! It has got to be real high since I am a newbe being just shy of 6 weeks on meds and a restricted carb and no sugar diet. Exercise has helped but if I miss just one workout the number goes up. Also I have tried and tried to get low readings in the AM. Only a few times have I recorded a lower number in the morning than I posted the night before.
Oh well I have no choice but to keep plugging away.
