Hi...haven't been on in a longtime. I am 3 yrs. out of Non-hodgkins and have met the love of my life. We are thinking about tubal reversal for me and trying to get pregnant. I was just wandering if anyone out there has been successful at conceiving after cancer. Any information would be very appreciated. Thanks!

Lisa, I don't have first hand experience but I do have a friend who was 7 months pregnant when they diagnosed with Hodgkins. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy who is 17 years old now and she's disease free. And she was stage four!

I would certainly ask a professional or do a bit of research. If you are no longer on treatments, I can't see why you would not be able to have a pregnancy but I'm sure there are some experts who can answer better.

:D Hi Nanci...I have another question for you about your friend. Where was here cancer located at when she found out and what type of treatment did she recieve? Did they give her chemotherapy while she was pregnant or not? I was just curious as to how it was all handled. Thank you for your response. LisaRenee'

She had symptoms of tiredness and night sweats throughout her pregnancy but chalked it up to being pregnant. When she was 7 months or so pregnant, she was having a hard time breathing and noticed an extremely large swelling that went from her neck almost down to her chest. Her next door neighbor who happen to be a doctor told her he wanted to see her in the office next day - they ran tests and found stage four Hodgkins. She had the baby c section within a months time and went on chemo after delivery.

Then three years later, it reoccured again and she went on chemo. That was 15 years ago and she's disease free today. Her doctor actaully wrote a book about her.

She is a true hero to me, during her ordeal, her husband ran off with his secretary so she had a small baby to take care of and a disease to contend with but she never became the cancer and just focused and took it a day at a time. She remarried last year - son is graduating high school and she's one fine lady who kept her faith - that's what most of it is about.

I probably gave you more details than you wanted but I know so many people with various kinds of lymphomas and all have the same message, just don't become the illness.

Thanks for the info. No, you didn't give too much. It's always nice to hear the stories. Sounds like your friend is one heck of a lady. Good for her!!! Sounds like she had atleast something close to what I had. Mine was down my throat and around my heart. And you are soooo right...you can't become the disease. there is a sign on my doc's wall that says " I have cancer. Cancer does not have me." And I have always believed the saying that if
God brings you to it, he will bring you through it. Anyway, thank you for your help. You are so lucky to have a friend like her and from the sounds of it, she is very lucky to have a friend like you. Thanks again,

Lisa, I think I'm having a senior moment! I do know another woman who had cancer about 8 years ago - at the time she was in her 20's and newly married. She had some form of cancer in her throat and underwent radiation treatments for six months.

She got pregnant three years ago undergoing invetro and had a healthy baby boy. She tried again last year using invetro but miscarried. She is trying again this month.

I totally forgot about her. She's in her mid 30's now.

My mother was diagnaced with Hodgekins when I was 3 yrs old in August of 1986( after 2 years of tring to find out what was wrong). She took chemo for 5 months and came off because she was extremly sick. In november of 1987 she insisted that they do a PET scan and CAT scan on her before her insurance rolled over. They did the scan and she was cancer free and has been ever since.

In October of 1990 she had her second child despite her dr. advise. My sister is now 13 and very healthy although we have noticed somethings that we think are from the chemo that my mother took.. She had slow hair growth, was born with jaundece(Sorry that is spelled wrong) and just other small things. But nothing that has been life threatening. Today she has a clean bill of health and plays and enjoys everything a 13 y/o should!

Good luck!!!! It can happen!
