I have posted here a few other times for my piece of mind. But now I am worried about my husbands piece of mind.

My husband had microdiscetomy on Nov 19, 2002. Pain worsened after hearing a pop on December 18th. Doctor said he needed more time to heal.
On January 5th doctor orders blood test to detect infections. On January 27th doctor orders another blood test to detect infection. January 29 doctor calls to make an appiontment for a disc biopsy.
On February 14th husband has disc biopsy. February 17th biopsy shows no sign of infection. Orders Physical therapy.
Mrach 10th doctor orders another MRI. March 11th MRI is done. March 12 doctor calls to schedule appointment with infectiuos disease doctor.

What the h*** is happening?

Husband is terrified. Has been crying all night. Says he wants to die rather than continue this fight.

ANY IDEAS?

I really have no idea at all what that would be. I just wanted you to know that my thoughts are with you and your husband and I wish you all the luck and pray that it is nothing serious.

God Bless,
Christina

i got diskitis following a diskectomy.. it was diagnosed a YEAR after the pain.. it took a year to show up on the endplates of the mri.. i am being treated with iv antibiotics.. vankomycin..

it is the most painful thing i have ever felt.. i scream in pain frequently..

i can understand the urge to quit fighting it, it is a hopeless fight against this ..

i want to ask anybody, what surgery is the surgical cure for diskitis? will a fusion help? the disk infection doesnt seem to be going with the antibiotics.. i have a deep pain in my disk space.. all cultures are negative.. but diskitis can now be seen on the mri.

help!
thanks,
nikhil.

ford_prefect and concernedspouse,
I just want to let you know that I will be thinking and praying about you and your families. I fell and cracked a vertibrae and have gotten arthritis in 2 levels of my spine. I came to these boards in hope of advice and encouragement for this new pain I am in...but I realized that both of you are in a far worse pain than myself and truly I should be greatful for that. I am sorry that you are in the pain you are in and I will continue to look for updates from both of you.

Concernedspouse, I am believing that everything will be o.k. w/ the infectious disease Dr. Please tell your husband that my prayers are with him.

God bless each of you.

Lorie

Well... I feel very sorry for your husband. I could relate to what he was feeling a couple weeks after mine. I had to go back in for another one 5 weeks after the first. I'm still not perfect, probably never will be, but I am better then before surgery. I would demand another opinion, and I would take him to the ER and get him seen there. They might be able to call in a specialist to give you another opinion on what's going on. Keep calling the surgeon's office and ask him what's up? Did he talk to you or your husband about what is going on? What did the follow up MRI show? Get the results and post them here, alot of people will be able to tell you exactly what it means. Don't give up until you get the help you want.
